Mr. Green Savage, 82, one of the oldest of the county's list of earlier settlers, will be laid to rest in the family burial ground south of Bay City this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Walker-Matchett will be in charge of the arrangements. The services under the direction of Reverent Ernest Deutsch, assisted by Rev. Connell, will be from the home of Mrs. H. T. Cartwright, daughter of Mr. Savage. Besides his wife, Mr. Savage is survived by four sons, Stuart, Robert, Morris, Hamilton and five daughters, Mrs. H. T. Cartwright, Mrs. H. G. Gilmore, Mrs. Foster Milner, Mrs. Lilie Belle Newton and Miss Ivy Savage. Pallbearers will be Messrs. Oscar Barber, Amos Lee, Harris Milner, A. S. Collins, P. G. Secrest, A. Huebner. The Daily Tribune, March 1, 1938 Amanda Jane Savage Died at the family home about ten miles south of Bay City last Sunday morning, Amanda J., wife of Greenberry Savage, age 37 years. Her remains were deposited in the family burial grounds near the home, the Rev. J. J. Callaway conducting the services. So sudden was her death, without scarcely a warning, that her friends here did not credit the report, but when they realized its truthfulness, that the spirit of that universally loved woman had winged its flight beyond the dark water of death, heads bowed in grief, tears flowed and sympathy was expressed on every side. Reared in this county, known to every one of the older citizens, greatly loved by relatives and highly esteemed by everyone, her death was one deplored in every home in the county. Deceased was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Franz, was born in this county on Nov. 11th, 1861. Was married to Mr. Greenberry Savage on Nov. 28th 1878. During the ministry of Rev. J. G. Collins she joined the Methodist church and up to her death was ever a faithful member and a zealous working in the cause of Christ. No appeal for aid or succor was ever made to this good Christian mother, but found a cheerful response, and many a weary foot and aching head, though stranger he be, found her home a haven of rest. When the final summons came she was ready and surrounded by her loving husband and all of her children, excepting Miss Beulah who was attending school at Wharton, she with a soft farewell went to receive the reward awaiting a noble, self sacrificing and Christian life. In this sad hour, when the mist hangs low and thick and when the burden of sorrow is almost too heavy to bear, the heartfelt sympathy of all our people go out to the stricken father and motherless children.

Ella Cartwright Miss Ella Cartwright, who came from Campbell, Texas to this county several months ago for the benefit of her health and to visit her uncle, Mr. P. Cartwright, died at her uncle's home on Boggy Sunday, April 22, at 12 o'clock of consumption. Enterment took place at the Savage cemetery Monday. The Visitor extends condolence to the bereaved relatives.

Mrs. Julia Way Mrs. Julia Way passed away at her home southwest of Bay City yesterday morning at 7 a. m. Mrs. Way had been a resident of Matagorda County for a good many years. Funeral services will be held from the home this afternoon at 3 p. m. with Rev. R. E. Connell officiating. Julia and her only child, Fannie Belle, were living
in Lavaca County, Texas in 1880 with her sister and brother-in-law, M.
J. and R. L. Martin. Fannie was listed as "Belle" age 4. The census
indicates Julia was born in Texas and her sister, M. J. (c1845) in
Alabama as were their parents. |

Fannie Bell Way Fite was the only child of Julia N. Way. On December 20, 1893 in Caldwell County, Texas, Fannie was married to James Fite. According to the 1900 Matagorda County census, James was born in March 1870 in Louisiana. Died
