May Frances Drennan

May Frances Drennan, 66, of Bay Villa Nursing Home, died Thursday at Bay Villa Nursing Home. She was born May 12, 1911 in Houston. Survivors include a daughter, Laverne Willis of Houston, son Brice Drennan of Houston, two aunts, Ida Gest and Ellen Gest of Bay City; two grandchildren. The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Taylor Bros. Chapel with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Interment will be at St. Fancisville Cemetery in Wadsworth. Pallbearers will be Charles Stephenson, Bubba Birkner, Butch Birkner, Henry Sherrer, Coy Ramsey and Roy Gest. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

JOHN GOLA

Rosary at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home for John Gola, 73 at 7:30 p.m., May 18 by The Rev. J. P. Shannon. He passed away May 17, at 11:15 p.m. in the Matagorda General Hospital.

Funeral services are to be held Tuesday May 19, 10:30 a.m., in the Wadsworth Catholic Church and interment in the Saint Francis Cemetery near Wadsworth.

He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Josephine Webber, of Bay City, Mrs. Agnes Shaklovitz of Galveston, and Mrs. Annie Anderson of Montana; and four brothers, Lawrence, Louis, Joe and Willie Gola of Bay City.

Joseph Gola, 76, of Bay City died at his home, Jan. 31, 1976. He was born Oct. 23, 1899 in Bay City. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. John Webber, Sr. of Bay City and two brothers, Willie and Louie Gola of Bay City. Services will be held in Taylor Brothers Chapel Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Burial will be in St. Francisville Cemetery in Wadsworth. Rosary will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Taylor Brothers Chapel. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Requiem Mass was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Holy Cross Catholic Church for Lawrence Gola, 73, who died Friday.

Rosary was ready for Gola at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Taylor Brothers Funeral chapel. The Rev. C. J. Martin officiated.

Survivors include sisters, Mrs. Josephine Webber, Bay City; Mrs. Agnes Shaklovitz, Galveston; Mrs. Ann Emerson, Hamilton, Montana; brothers Louis Gola and Willie Gola, all of Bay City.

Pallbearers were: Charles Gola, Arnold Manna, John Webber, Willie Shaklovitz, Bennie Tomek, Johnny Brzymiaekiewicz.

Louis Gola

Funeral services for Louis Gola, 95, of Bay City will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Ess officiating. Burial will be in St. Francesville Cemetery, Wadsworth.

Mr. Gola was born Sept. 9, 1891, in Bay City to Louis and Mary Petrucha Gola and died May 6, 1987, at Bay Villa Nursing Home.

He served in the U. S. Army during World War I in France. He was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Thelma Gola of Bay City; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Johnny Brzymialkiewicz of Jersey Village; a sister, Josephine Webber of Bay City; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Kerry Gola, Joe Crain, Mike Schelsteder, Dan Shakovitz, Earl Dibbern and John Webber.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, in 1984.

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Foerster Gola, 77, were held at 10:30 a.m. today at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Interment was at St. Francisville Cemetery in Wadsworth.

A rosary was said by the Rev. Sonnier at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Bay City Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Gola was born Sept. 9, 1906, in Paige, Texas, to Charles and Helen Stoever Foerster. She married Louis Gola on March 11, 1925, and has resided in the Bay City area ever since. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Mrs. Gola died at home in Bay City on Aug. 26, 1984.

Survivors include her husband, Louis Gola; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Lee and Johnny Brzymialkiewicz of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Thelma Gola of Bay City; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles W. Gola, Bobby G. Brady, M. E. Wilde, Mike Schelsteder, Kerry Gola and Danny Shakowitz.

Funeral arrangements are with Dick R. Elkins Funeral Home.

Ludwig Gola

Louis Goley [Ludwig “Louis” Gola]

Louis Goley, aged 66 years, died at his home in the eastern part of this city last night.

Mr. Goley was one of the pioneer citizens of his city, having at one time owned a good body of land within and adjoining the city limits. He had been a sufferer from paralysis for some months, which finally caused his death. He leaves a wife, four daughters and five sons, to whom The Tribune extends sympathies. He will be buried at Wadsworth Wednesday, under the auspices of the Catholic Church, of which he was a member.

Funeral services for Willie Gola, 77, Bay City will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow in the Francisville Cemetery, in Wadsworth.

Services will be under the direction of Don Gene Taylor, with Father Charles Sonnier officiating.

Gola was born November 23, 1903, in Bay City.

He is survived by a sister, Josephine Webber of Bay City and a brother, Louie Gola, also of Bay City.

Bland Hale

Bland Hale Dies At 53

Bland Hale, 53, a resident of Wadsworth for 20 years, passed away at Matagorda General Hospital Monday afternoon.

There will be rosary at 7:30 p.m. this evening at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Sacred Heart Church in Wadsworth. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Wadsworth, Father C. J. Martin officiating.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Leona Hale of Wadsworth; his mother, Mrs. Maggie Hale of Bay City; two daughters, Mrs. Irby Marie Coolidge of Houston and Miss Mary Frances Hale of Wadsworth; a son, Kenneth Charles Hale of Wadsworth and 4 grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, all of Bay City, who are: Mrs. Daisy Newton, Mrs. Ressie Blaylock, Mrs. A. Seerden, and Mrs. Eva Graham; and three brothers, all also of Bay City, Tom, Rodney and Pete Hale.

Kenneth Charles Hale

Kenneth Charles Hale, 70, of Wadsworth, Texas, passed away Friday, June 20, 2003. He was born May 28, 1933 in New Gulf, Texas to Bland Hale and Leona May Seerden Hale.

He was a resident of Matagorda County since 1941, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of VFW Post 2438, and a US Army veteran of Korea.

He is survived by: wife, Shirley Hale of Wadsworth; mother, Leona Franzina of Bay City; daughters, Vanessa Smith of Houston and Karen Johnson of Kingsville; sons, Robert Charles Hale of Wadsworth and Kenneth Scott Hale of Anahuac; sisters, Irby Marie Gore of Hempstead and Mary Frances Fey of League City; grandchildren, Leslie RaNae Gassen of Van Vleck, Ashley Renee Hale and Jonathan Hale of Anahuac, and Jack Joseph Johnson, Jr. and Danielle Elizabeth Johnson of Kingsville; step-grandchildren, Christa Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, Tammie Johnson of Germany, and Jay Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona; and his great-granddaughter, Destany RaNae Zuniga of Van Vleck.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bland Hale and by his son-in-law, Jack Joseph Johnson,Sr.

Mrs. Katy Katherin Halick, age 30 years, 1 month and 11 days, died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Louie Gola, yesterday and was buried at 4 o’clock.

Many friends and acquaintances of the family attended the funeral.

HENIGAN, Claude James, 79, of Wadsworth, passed away at his home early today. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wadsworth with Father C. J. Martin officiating. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Henigan, a resident of Matagorda County since 1928, was a retired farmer and was also formerly employed by Matagorda General Hospital. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Marguerite Bruce and Mrs. Kathleen Tatum, both of Bay City; two sisters, Mrs. Orleath Dammann and Mrs. Gladys Seidel, both of San Antonio, and one brother, Clarence Henigan of Nogales, Ariz. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Mrs. Henigan Dies At 79

Mrs. Addie C. Doss Henigan, 79, passed away at Matagorda General Hospital Wednesday morning. Mrs. Henigan was a pioneer resident of Matagorda County.

She was a member of the first class to graduate from the San Marcos Teachers College, returning then to Matagorda to teach.

Her grandmother Mrs. Frank Seerden, gave the land and helped to build the first Catholic church in this Diocese, the St. Francis Church. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Doss, Sr.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday in Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel and Requiem Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Church in Wadsworth, Father William Hamilton will officiate.

Interment will be at the St. Francis Cemetery with Tommy Petrucha, Alex Gavender, Walter Gavender, Francis Butter, Arnold Fanson and Jerry Janise as pallbearers.

Survivors include her husband, C. J. Henigan and two daughters Marguerite Frances Bruce and Mrs. Kathleen Ruth Tatum of Bay City; two sisters, Miss Mary Frances Doss of Laredo and Mrs. Wilburn Watkins of New Gulf; and one brother, Willie Doss of Wadsworth.

Mrs. Bertha Inez Seerden Laird, 78, of Wadsworth died April 2 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric R. Laird, in 1966. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wadsworth. Survivors include; sister, Mrs. Nell Sachnik of Houston; two brothers, Frank Seerden of Houston and Murray Seerden of Bay City; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 6, at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Wadsworth with Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Interment will be at the St. Francisville Cemetery with pallbearers being: Lamar Sachnik, Eddie Sachnik, Norman Sachnik, Bobby and Billy Seerden, and David Stubblefield. Rosary will be said Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at Taylor Bros. Arrangements with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Eric R. Laird, 72, of Wadsworth passed away this morning in Matagorda General Hospital. Rosary will be held at 8 p.m. Friday in Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wadsworth, Rev. C. J. Martin officiating.

Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Laird was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, the Sons of Herman in Houston and the Holy Name Society in Bay City. He was formerly a Houston resident and had lived in Wadsworth since 1957.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Bertha Laird, two sisters, Mrs. Eula Ward of Houston and Mrs. Laura Gregson of Tomball; three brothers, Barney of Houston, Wayne of Bay City and Mabin of Wadsworth; and a number of nieces and nephews. Nephews will be pallbearers.

Mary J. McCaskill

Funeral services for Mary J. McCaskill, 91, of Wadsworth will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wadsworth, with Monsignor T. Joseph Culver and the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Burial will be in St. Francesville Cemetery.

Mrs. McCaskill was born Jan. 28, 1893, in Kansas City, Kan., and died Dec. 30, 1984, at Tomball Community Hospital.

A resident of Matagorda County since 1926, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Altar Society.

Survivors include two sons, William T. McCaskill Jr. and J. R. McCaskill Sr. of Houston; one grandson; three nephews; and two great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. McCaskill, in 1929.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Mary Ellen Seerden McQueen

Mary Ellen McQueen

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ellen McQueen, 69, of San Antonio are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wadsworth, with interment at St. Francisville Cemetery in Wadsworth.

A rosary is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. McQueen died July 5, 1984, at her home in San Antonio. Born in August 1914, in Minden, La., she grew up in Matagorda and Gulf, Texas. Her parents were Flossie and Robert Covington.

She married H. Murray Seerden of Bay City in January, 1930. They have two daughters who survive her: Barbara Ann Stubblefield and Mary “Patsy” Huff, both of San Antonio. She later married Mr. McQueen, who preceded her in death. Mrs. McQueen is also survived by two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Mrs. Annie Mary Kattie Middendorpp

Mrs. Annie Mary Katie Middendorpp age 89 years 3 months 25 days, died at her home east of Bay City, Monday morning about 5:30. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Wellen of Burlington, Texas and Mrs. Katie Brinkman of Sacramento, Cal., and one son, John Middendorpp of Bay City.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Reverend O’Riley, officiating.

Active pallbearers were Herman Arnold, Chas. Michaelis, Herman Michaelis, John Kaack, Dave Kaack, and Hy. Reinke.

Following the service interment was made in the St. Francisville cemetery under directions of Taylor Bros.

Requiem Mass Held For J. Middendorpp

Requiem Mass was held for John J. Middendorpp, 79, at 8 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, followed by graveside services and burial in St. Francis cemetery, near Wadsworth. The Rev. J. P. Shannon officiated.

Middendorpp, a long time resident of Bay City, died early Tuesday at the Matagorda General Hospital.

Survivors include niece, Mrs. D. S. Hubble of Fresno, Calif., and a nephew, Ben Wellen of Burlington, Texas.
