Rains County, Texas OUTLINE OF HISTORY OF RAINS COUNTY SCHOOLS
Lone Star School began about 1875, continuing until about 1890, and was originally a church near the Lone Star Cemetery; the first teacher was a Mr. TARTAR. The first school in Emory was conducted by Professor O. RICE and his 2 daughters, opening about 1870 in the old Masonic Hall. A Professor Bill HART owned and operated a private school in Emory in the 1880s. The following schools were petitioned for by voters in the districts and ordered established by the Commissioner's Court:
1895 : Point District #2
1897 : County Line District #3
1898 : Lynch District #4; Center Point District #5; Bois d'Arc District #6
1899 : Hooker Ridge District #7; Sheffield Creek District #8; Smyrna District #9;
Sabine Pass District #10; Willow Springs District #11; Henry's Chapel District #12;
Colony District #13; Elm District #14; Daugherty District #15; Watts District #16;
Center Grove District #17; Pilgrim Rest District #18
1912 : District #21 created
1915 : Districts #5 and #19 were consolidated
1919 : Willow Springs District #11 was divided
1913 : Point District #2 became an independent school district.
1920 : Emory ISD was formed
1930/31 : A transportation system was set up and high school affiliation was achieved.
1933 : Point School was accredited
1935 : Point ISD had a transportation system
1938 : Ginger District annexed to Emory ISD; Wattsville District annexed to Point ISD
