East Prairie Cemetery is also
known as Possum Walk Cemetery and is located in the rural community of Possum
Walk. Take FM 358 east, from Pennington to Cemetery Road on south
side at cemetery sign, south 1 miles to first dirt road on east side, east .2
miles to cemetery. East Prairie Cemetery is also known as Possum Walk
Cemetery. According to Mrs. Bowersox, Mrs.
Phoeba Hutto, wife of Mr. R. W. Hutto sold tow acres of a fifty-acre survey to
the East Prairie Association for $2.00 per acre. The deed was witnessed 11
November 1905.
All of us who are
family historians know to search variant spelling of the names. We often murmur
under our breath about census enumerators, old time record keepers, etc. Jessie
M. Maricle, son of J. H. & A. B died March 8, 1918. After his death, the
parents changed the name to Mericle. Jessie's sister Lucile Mericle died
twenty-one months after her brother, and the name change took place during the
time between their deaths.

County Texas Cemeteries © 1992 both published by Trinity County Historical
Commission (TCHC) were consulted.
The cemetery was surveyed on 14 May 2002 .by TCHC Cemetery
Committee Members: Virginia Buckle Arnold and Mary Lee Mason Abshier. Cemetery was surveyed by Margie Wheeler
and Tina Sanders in 2010.
