WILLIAM HENRY SKAINS FAMILY CEMETERY

This cemetery is on private property.  It is necessary to have a guide to locate this cemetery.  In the Glendale Community area; tale State Highway 94 for 2.1miles east from intersection of FM 3188 to private gravel lease road on southeast side. Follow gravel southeast 1.7 miles to dirt road on NE side. NE, following road as it curves back south to grass lane on SE side for a total of 2.4 miles. SE on grass road .7 miles to cemetery on east side.

According to information in the 1980 Trinity County Cemeteries book, "this cemetery was located near Glen Haven Estates near Trinity, Texas.  Only crepe myrtle trees indicate where the cemetery was.  It fell victim to road building crews during the Civilian Conservation Corps era in Trinity County.  Originally, there were six graves in a row."  In 1991, Mrs. Oltea Parr of Trinity, Texas, added this bit of history.  Mr. William "Billy" Skains and his wife, Elizabeth, migrated from Georgia to Trinity County circa 1845 and settled on a tract of land on Sandy Creek, east of White Rock Creek.

This lost cemetery was recently located (2004) by family and friends.  For the compiled list, both Trinity County Cemeteries ©1980 and the second edition Trinity County Texas Cemeteries © 1992 both published by Trinity County Historical Commission (TCHC) were consulted.
