Obituary of Ethel Gonnering Matzke - February 22, 1997

Ethel (Gonnering) Matzke, 76, town of Glenmore, died peacefully Saturday morning, Feb 22, 1997 at her home. The daughter of the late William and Celia (Kempen) Gonnering was born on June 8, 1920 in Greenleaf and was a lifelong resident of the area.  The former Ethel Gonnering and Roland Matzke were married on Jan 2, 1941, and the couple just celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.  Ethel and Roland farmed the family farm until retirement.  She was a member of Francis Xavier Catholic Church in DePere and was an active member of the Glenmore Homemakers and the area senior citizen group.  Ethel was a former member of the daughters of Isabella.  She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, singing, and dancing.  Ethel loved to party.  Survivors include her husband, Roland, and their seven children:  Judy and Charles Chada, Denmark, Glen and Joan (Henrigilis) Matzke Green Bay, Paul and Bridgit (McCabe) Matzke, Sun Prairie, Mark and Helen (Manders) Matzke, DePere, Dan and Myra (Rathke) Matzke, DePere, Jean and Charles Guns, DePere, Sharon and Jeff Dworak, DePere: 23 grandchildren, Robert Chada, Bill Chada, Joe Chada and his special friend, Laura, Lea Ann Chada, Steve Chada, and his special friend Brenda, Gary Chada, Vicki and Larry Rebas, Derek Matzke, Michael and Molly Matzke, Christopher and Lynnette Matzke, Nathaniel Matzke and his special friend Kristol, Bridgit Erin Matzke, Mathew Matzke, Peter Matzke, Tony Matzke, and his special friend Rhonda, Karen Matzke and her fiance, Pat, Sarah Matzke, and her special friend Jason, Karl Guns, Lynn Guns, Kurt Guns, Scott Gunns, Jamie Ann Dworak, Jacob Dworak,one great grand child Cade Matzke; five sisters and three brothers, Evelyn VanderPerren, Germaine and Gary Greening, Marjorie and Chester Dollar, Irene and Eugene Engstrom, Rose Mary and Joe DuBois, all of Green Bay, Donald and Betty Gonnering, Appleton, Robert Gonnering, Green Bay, and his friend Ceil, Raymond (Bud) Gonnering, Brillion.  She is further survived by many brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Ralph, Vince, and Marvin Gonnering, a sister, Marion Gonnering, and a sister in law, Sylvia.  Friends may call at the Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N Webster...Mass Tuesday at Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S.
