Brother Receives Decoration

Mrs. Naomi Dunlap of Mountain, where she is serving as post office clerk, was the next of kin of another Mountain casualty, Tech. Sgt. Richard R, Sandberg, her brother who has been listed as missing since July 26, 1943 over Hanover, Germany.

Sandberg entered the Army Air corps on April , 9, 1942, graduating from the gunnery school and getting his silver wings on Oct. 21, 1942.  He was later rated as an expert air force gunner.

Sgt. Sandberg was awarded posthumously the Air Medal for meritorious achievement on five separate bombing missions.  The decoration was received in a colorful ceremony at the Santa Ana air base by his oldest brother, M. N.  Sandberg, La Mesa, Calif.

"The community of Mountain is only a small dot on the civilian map" stated Postmaster Olson, "nut we are making history in military life."

Mountain has been active in all phases of war work on the home front, recently leading Oconto county in collecting more than 1,000 pounds of discarded clothing for war victims in the liberated countries. It has an active Red Cross group, is prominent in salvage work, in the sale of war bonds and now in the annual appeal for funds for infantile paralysis work. In all these Postmaster Olson is the leader.
