HISTORIC OCONTO COUNTY CHURCHES
Wisconsin
.Brookside Community Methodist Church and Hall.

.

"At the Methodist conference held at Janesville (Wisconsin) in 1854 Bishoped Morris appointed the Rev. J.D. Donaldson to the Oconto mission. He was the first minister to reside in this place." So reads the beginning of Methodism in Oconto. Since then Oconto has been the mother-church to congregations at Pensaukee, Little Suamico, Stiles, Peshtigo, Menominee, Lena and Brookfield.

After 113 years of ministry in the Abrams area, the Abrams United Methodist Church will hold its final service on June 29, 2008. The Methodist Church was one of the earliest churches built in the village of Abrams, having its beginning in 1895. The church as we see it today is the result of the combining of the Brookside Community Methodist Church, the German Methodist and the Methodist Church in the village of Abrams.
