Samuel BLYTHE married Elizabeth PATTON in Augusta Cty. in 1747. They were both to have been born 1720-1727 and unsure where. It is even to have been said that it might have been Scotland. Their first son was named James which well was one of their fathers names. Then Richard, William, Joseph, And Samuel. Jane, Mary, Elizabeth and Ann and another daughter whose name is unknown were their daughters. Thanks for any help

My ggrandfather Rev. John Wesley LLOYD was from Lexington, Rockbridge Co. (then Augusta Co.), VA. He married Olinda Josephine AULT in eastern TN, maybe Pikeville, 31 Dec 1885. They had two daughters born in TX in 1887 and '88, then he became a Methodist missionary to the IT and they lived all around IT and OK until he died in 1923 in Francis, Pontotoc Co. OK. Family story says the LLOYDs were "bluebloods" and felt that J. W. "married beneath himself." Can anyone tell me anything about the LLOYDs from Lexington? Judy Jones Arnold

RUCKMAN posted by Joseph Ruckman on Thursday, July 30, 1998

I am looking for any information, but particularly origin, descendants and parantage (in that order), for John RUCKMAN who appears on the Augusta County Court Records Order Book No. III., March 21, 1753, (p. 415). This is the earliest mention of a RUCKMAN I have found in Virginia, later ones appearing in Hampshire Co. VA (now WV) in the 1780's. The Hampshire Co. Ruckmans (John or Jonathan, Thomas and Samuel - these names aren't certain but the best I have) reportedly came from NJ, but I have no proof to that effect beyond family legend. Most of Hampshire Co. records destroyed in fire, so I have to look elsewhere.

FLACK posted by David Cofield on Thursday, July 30, 1998

I am interested in James and Mary FLACK, residents of Augusta County in the late 1700s and early 1800s. I believe they are my gggggrandparents. My ggggrandfather James E. FLACK first appears in records in Person County, NC, in the 1820s, however in 1835 he received a letter from the Augusta County area giving him news of his mother and sisters. A Mary FLACK who resided in Augusta County in 1830 appears to be the right age to be James E's mother. I have been unable to connect him with the Augusta County FLACKs, but obviously he must have been, otherwise why the letter? (I can provide photocopies of the letter, which is from Pleasant A. Clarke, apparently James E.'s brother-in-law)

BLAKLEY, HITE posted by Beverly A. Harbourt on Friday, July 31, 1998

Nettie Franklin BLAKLEY born February 12, 1880 and died March 02, 1927 in Augusta County and Gabriel Jones HITE born May 12, 1868 and died December 01, 1926 were married in Ruth Elizabeth born December 25, 1908, Russell R. Jones born March 07, 1912 Ruby Jane born May 10, 1918, and Rachel Lorraine (changed her name to Mary Francis)born September 22, 1921. According to family information, "In July or Aug 1909 he purchased the old Riley farm which had a house, barn, ice house, and smoke house. Gabriel hired men to help him farm the land. He had three rules which must be obeyed on Hite property: No mistreating the horses, no smoking, and no swearing. Upon Garbiel's death, the farm passed into the hands of administrators because all the children were under the legal age. (Ruth was married and took the three other children to live with her in Covington. Upon reaching majority, the children received what was left of the estate. However, bad investments by the administrators had greatly diminished the estate. The children each received a few thousand dollars.)" I am interested in finding out any information on Gabriel and Nettie (they are listed in the Riverhead District of Augusta County in the 1920 Federal Census --supersivor's district 10, enumeration district no 44, Sheet no 2A). I am also interested in determining how I find the will that left the estate and any additonal information on the estate or will. I also am looking for information (specifically source documentation) on Gabriel's father and mother. Marriage license or other documentation from Augusta County or the information for acquiring such documentation would be mostappreciated.
