Will of Harwood Clary

Will Book 5 pg 381-382, Brunswick County, Virginia

In the Name of God Amen I Harwood Clary of Brunswick County. Being of perfect mind and memory thanks to almighty God and calling to rememberance the frailty and uncertainty of human life have made this my last will and testament in mannor following I give (_______) My soul unto the hands of my merciful creator hoping for remission of my sins through the merrits of my blessed Redemer Jesus Christ, my body I leave to be buried at the discretion of my Exrs. here after named.

Item I give & bequeath unto Patty Harrison my mill & the mill tract of land to her and her heirs forever also three negroes named as follows Fillis Bob & Sasy they and their increase to her and her heirs forever also I leave one negro boy named Hamton to be bound to Wm Harrison till he is 21 years of age if he behaves himself well then to be set free but if not to be a slave to the (_) Harrison for ever.

Item I give & bequeath unto Polley M Harrison one negroe girl named Silocy she & her increase to & her heirs for ever.

Item I lend unto Judith Jones all my land except the Mill Track above mentioned of the South Side of Rattle Snake Creek to her during her life Then to be equally devided between her two daughters Polly & Salley Jones to them & their heirs for ever I also give unto Judith Jones Four Negroes Sam, Lary, Vilet & Butcher, to her & her heirs forever also two horses named Lady & Blase, fifteen head of of her choice of cattle, twenty head of her choice of hogs & half the crop of all kinds to her & her heirs for ever.

Item I give & Bequeath to my son Thos Clary the track of land that I now live on to him & his heirs forever.

Item I give & Bequeath to my son Ben Clary twenty five shillings to him and Heirs for ever.

Item The rest of my estate both real & personal to be sold to the highest bidder & my just debts to be paid & the remainder of the money to be equally divided between six of my children (viz) Thomas Clary, Lucy Miass, Mary Clary, William Pearsons, Children Paty Blanton and Anne Wesson to them and their heirs forever I leave Wm Harrison & Thomas Clary my exs in witness whereof I hearunto set my hand & affixed my seal this twenty third day of August one thousand seven hundred & ninenty
