Indenture made the day of August, 1761, between
John Bailey and William Price, for 50 pounds, conveying 200 acres on
Totearro Creek, adjoining Johnson's line. Names of witnesses not given.
Indenture acknowledged in Court on August 24, 1761, by John Bailey. Deed
Book 7, Page 1.
Indenture made the 23rd day of June, 1761, between John Geer and Thomas
Harrison, for 344 pounds, conveying 400 acres on South side of the Three
Creeks, and being part of a tract (missing) on February 25, 1719, and by
the said John Davis conveyed to Matthias Davis by Deed of Gift recorded
in Brunswick County and by the said Matthias Davis conveyed to the said
John Geer partly unto by Indenture dated September 27, 1749. Signed by
John Geer (his mark). Witnesses were Edward Goodrich, Thomas Bridges,
and Pen Hurst. Indenture was acknowledged in Court on August 24, 1761,
by John Geer and Martha, his wife, personally appeared and relinquished
her right of dower. Deed Book 7, Page 2.
Margaret Ferrel for the natural love and affection unto Lewis Malone, my
son, conveying One Negro man about 10 years of age named Dick, dated the
24th day of August, 1761. Witnesses were Isaac Row Alton, Samuel Sexton
(his mark), George Walton, and Sewell Sexton (his mark). Deed of Gift
was proved by the oaths of Siswell Sexton, Isaac Walton, and George
Walton, in Court on August 24, 1761. Deed Book 7, Page 4.
Indenture made the 24th day of August, 1761, between Thomas Harrison and
Edward Goodrich, for 120 pounds, conveying 258 acres on North side of
the Three Creeks, adjoining lands of John Whitting (Whittington), John
Butt on or near the Jumping Branch, John Rivers, John Maclin, and John
Olliver on the head of the Little Meadows. Names of witnesses not given.

Maclin, for 82 pounds, 3 shillings, conveying 1 Negro woman named Lucy,
other slaves, household furniture, etc., provided that if money repaid

Indenture made the 20th day of August, 1761, between William Cocke and
wife, Rebecca, of Lunenburg County, parties of the first part, and the
Rev. Gronow Owen, for 90 pounds, conveying 400 acres on South side of
Reedy Creek, and being the same land conveyed to John Jones by Letters
Patent dated Augsut 20, 1760. Names of witnesses not given. Indenture
was acknowledged in Court on August 24, 1761, by William Cocke. Deed

Indenture made the 26th day of September, 1761, between Joseph Cannon of
Dinwiddie County, and Frederick Jones of Prince George County, parties
of the first part, and William Rideout of Dinwiddie County, for 16
pounds, conveying 160 acres, and being same land granted by patent dated
August 16, 1756. Witnesses were Isham Epps, Junr., Benjamin Bishop, and
Thomas Harris Williams. Indenture acknowledged in Court on September 28,
1761, by Joseph Cannon and proved as to Frederick Jones by the oaths of
Benjamin Bishop and Thomas Harris Williams, and Frances, wife of Joseph
Cannon, appeared and relinquished her right of dower. Deed Book 7, Page

Indenture made the 28th day of September, 1761, between Thomas Jackson
and Burwell Jackson, for 100 pounds, conveying 120 acres, adjoining land
of Peter Simmons, Reedy Creek at the mouth of Cabbin Barnch, and land of
Roberson, and being part of a larger tract of 448 acres granted to
Thomas Jackson by Letters of Patent dated June 2, 1760. Names of
witnesses not given. Indenture was acknowledged in Court on September
28, 1761, by Thomas Jackson. Deed Book 7, Page 10.
Indenture made the 24th day of August, 1761, between William Thompson
and Hannah, his wife, parties of the first part, and William Blunt of
Sussex County, for 150 pounds, conveying 750 acres on both sides of
Avents Creek, adjoining Indian Brance, land of Winfield, and Beachlick
Creek. Signed by William Thompson and Hannah Thompson (her mark). No
witnesses. Indenture was acknowledged in Court by William Thompson and
Hannah Thompson, and Hannah Thompson was privately examined and
relinquished her right of dower. Deed Book 7, Page 11.
Indenture made the 28th day of September, 1761, between Nathan Harris
and Catharine, his wife, and Walton Harris, son of the said Nathan, for
natural love and affection which they have to their son and for 5
shillings, conveying 200 acres on North side of Rattlesnake Creek as low
as the Branch known by the name of Tumber Tree Branch and being the
upper moity (sic) of 369 acres, part of a tract granted to George
Wallton by patent and conveyed by the said George Wallton to Nathan
Harris and wife. No witnesses. Indenture was acknowledged in Court on
September 28, 1761, by Nathan Harris and Catharine Harris, and Catharine
Harris relinquished her right of dower. Deed Book 7, Page 13.
George Wallton for natural love and affection I have and bear unto Mary
Ledbetter, my daughter, conveying 251 acres, being the lower moiety of
an inclusive patent for 1,526 acres (738 acres of same being granted to
George Wallton by patent dated March 12, 1739), said 1,526 acres being
patent dated February 14, 1761, and it being divided from the other
moiety now in the possession of Nathan Harris, dated the 28th day of
September, 1761. No witnesses. Indenture and Memorandum of Livery of
Seizin were acknowledged in Court on September 18, 1761, by George

George Wallton for natural love and affection I have and bear unto
Nathan Harris (my daughter, Catharine's, Husband), conveying 537 acres,
it being the upper moiety of an inclusive patent for 1,526 acres (738
acres of same being granted to George Wallton by patent dated March 12,
1739), said 1,526 acres being patent dated February 14, 1761, dated the
28th day of September, 1761. No witnesses. Indenture and Memorandum of
Livery of Seizin were acknowledged in Court on September 18, 1761, by

Indenture made the 9th day of September, 1761, between Richard Vaughan,
the Younger, and John Westmoreland, for 32 pounds, conveying 63 acres
and 3 quarters, on South side of Wagua Creek and on both sides of
Beaverpond Branch, and being part of a larger tract of 250 acres
formerly granted to Richard Vaughan, the elder, by Letters Patent and
was by a clause in the Last Will and Testament of the said Richard
Vaughan bequeathed the 250 acres to his two grandsons, Richard Vaughan
and Abraham Vaughan, to be equally divided between them and that the
division be made across the Beaver Pond Branch, the half of which
division on the North side of the said Branch is hereby gargained and
sold on the North side of the same. Signed by Richard Vaughan (his
mark). Witnesses were Thomas Butler and M. Cadet Young. Indenture and

Dionisia, his wife, parties of the first part, and Banjamin Jones of
Dinwiddie County, for 30 pounds, conveying 168 acres on North side of

Gent., and Mildred, his wife, parties of the first part, and Walter
Peter, Merchant, for 150 pounds, conveying 300 acres on North side of
the Three Creeks, bounded on the East by lands of Col. Nathaniel
Edwards, on the South and on the West by Samuel Lucas, and on the North
by the Three Creeks. Indenture and receipt were acknowledged in Court on
September 28, 1761, by John Willis. Deed Book 7, Page 19.
Indenture made the 26th day of October, 1761, between Peter Avent and
Amy, his wife, parties of the first part, and Richard Blanks, for 120
pounds, conveying 250 acres on West side of the Otterdam Swamp, and
adjoining the mouth of the Lick Branch and land of Col. John Willis and
Daniel Mabry, and being part of a tract devised to the said Peter Avant
by his father by his Last Will and Testament in Sussex County. No
witnesses. Indenture and Memorandum of Livery of Seizin were
acknowledged in Court on October 26, 1761 by Peter Avent and Amy Avent,

Indenture made the 26th day October, 1761, between Richard Blanks and
James Harrison, for 50 pounds, conveying 130 acres, adjoining lands of
William Allen, William Eaton, and Davis, and being the upper part of a
tract formerly belonging to Thomas Carroll, dec'd. and was assigned over
by the said Carrolls Exors. unto the said Richard Blanks. Indenture and
Memorandum of Livery of Seizin were acknowledged in Court by Richard
Blanks and at Court in April, 1763, Winefred, the wife of the said
Richard Blanks personally appeared and relinquished her right of dower.

Drury Cook, for 150 pounds, conveying 310 acres and being the same tract
granted to Henry Cook by Patent dated October 31, 1726, and a 190 acres
which adjoins the 310 acre tract and being part of the land granted to
Henry Cook by Patent for 1,760 acres on August 20, 1748, adjoining Rooty
Branch, the lands of John Cook and George Wyche, and the Great Swamp.
Witnesses were Zebulon Lewis, Robert Peebles, John Cook, and James
Lanier. Indenture was acknowledged in court on October 26, 1761, by
George Rieves and Sarah, his wife, appeared and relinquished her right

Indenture made the 26th day of October, 1761, between William Scoggan
and George Scoggan, for 35 pounds, conveying 150 acres on North side of
the Ready Branch, adjoining land of Samuel Craft and Matthew Evans.
Witnesses were Daniel jackson, Thomas Jackson, and John Cook. Indenture
was acknowledged in Court on October 26, 1761, by William Scoggan and
Elizabeth, his wife, appeared and relinquished her right of dower. Deed

John Gordon, for 50 pounds, conveying 200 acres adjoining lands of John

Peter Adams, for 70 pounds, conveying 150 acres on South side of Little
Creek, adjoining lands of Ralp (sic) Jackson, Benjamin Simmons, and
William Vaughan, and White Face Branch, and being part of a 510 acre
tract formerly granted to Ambros Jackson by Patent dated July 11, 1719.

witnesses. Indenture was acknowledged in Court on October 26, 1761, by

Gravely Run, adjoining land of Abraham Brown, and being same land

Chapman, Lewis Charles, and R. Campbell. Indenture was proved in Court
on June 24, 1760, by the oaths of Henry Edmunds and Robert Campbell and

Indenture made the 20th day of November, 1761, between Thomas Lyall and
Hanah, his wife, parties of the first part, and Melinton Sims, for 200
pounds paid by the said Millington Sims, conveying 235 acres on Brandy
Creek, and adjoining Mr. Harrison, and being the same land granted to
John Betts, Clerk, by Letters Patent dated June 19, 1735, and 35 in the
ninth year of the reign of King George, II. Signed by Thomas Lyall and

Briggs, and joining lands of Capt. Robert Briggs. Witnesses were Daniel
Jackson, Thomas Flewelling, and William Raney. Indenture and Memorandum

and Elizabeth, his wife, of Dinwiddie County, and George Clarke of
Brunswick County. Conveying 1,888 acres located on both sides of Great

John Pilkinton for 75 pounds conveying to Richard Pilkinton, six Negroes
of the Estate of William Pilkinton of the County of Isle of Wight,
deceased, three of which Negroes are now in the possession of William

Celah, his wife, now of Dinwiddie County, parties of the first part, and

of a 316 acre tract which was patented to Samuel Center. Witnesses were

and James Harrison, for 14 pounds, 15 shillings, conveying 150 acres on
the West side of Hicks Branch and being the upper part of a tract
containing 335 acres which was formerly granted to Joseph Reen of the
County of Prince George by Letters of Patent dated September 28, 1730,
and was conveyed by the said Joseph Reen to William Whittington of
Brunswick County, father of the said Howell Whittington by deed dated
February 1, 1747, and was by the said William Whittington devised unto
the aforesaid Howell Whittington by his Last Will and Testament. Names
of witnesses not given. Indenture was acknowledged in Court on January

Indenture made the 22nd day of February, 1762, between Edward Crews and
Hartwell Mirable of Albemarle Parish, County of Sussex, for 150 pounds,
conveying all that plantation tract or parcell (sic) of land whereon the
said Edward Crews now lives, joining the lands of Thomas Washington, and
on the South side of Pihill Creek, containing 232 acres, and being the
same land granted by Patent to the said Edward Crews. Witnesses were D.
Fisher, Merriott Moore G., and Wm. Edwards. Indenture was acknowledged
in Court by Edward Crews, and [---] (name not given), his wife, appeared

Indenture made the 20th day of February, 1762, between Abraham Jones of
Halifax County, Province of North Carolina, and William Mosely, for 21
pounds, conveying 525 acres adjoining lands of Thomas Mosely, and Pehill
Creek and Lizard Creek. Witnesses were Isaac Mosely, Thomas Mosely, and
Benja. Mosely. Indenture and Memorandum of Livery of Seizin were proved
in Court on February 22, 1762, by the oaths of the three witnesses. Deed

Halifax County, Province of North Carolina, and Benjamin Mosely, for 12

and Isaac Mosely. Indenture and Memorandum of Livery of Seizin were
proved in Court on February 22, 1762, by the oaths of the three

Southampton County, and William Thweat, for 80 pounds, conveying 128
acres on South side of Meherrin River, adjoining lands of Captain John
Mafon and Urvin Brown. Witnesses were James Lunday, Urvin Brown, Abijah
Bidlum, Jeremiah Bass (his mark), and James Birchett. Indenture and
Memorandum of Livery of Seizin were proved in Court on February 22,
1762, by the oaths of James Birchett, James Lundy and Jeremiah Bass.

Prince George County, and Parsons Bradley of Chesterfiled County, for
300 pounds paid to Frederick Jones and Betty, his wife, conveying 813
acres on both side of Cockes Creek and bounded on the Country line of
North Carolina and the County line of Lunenburg, being part of a tract
of land purchased of Roger Tillman as will appear by a patent granted to
the said Frederick Jones bearing date of July 4, 1759, 413 acres part of
the said 813 acres is the land sold to Parsons Bradley which said land
lies in the County of Brunswick and bounded as aforesaid by the County
line of Lunenburg and the Country line of North Carolina and lies on
both sides of Cocks Creek and is the plantation where George Tillman
formerly lived. Witnesses were William Thornton, John Clack, and Lewis

Robert Donald of Hanover County, Merchant, indebted to Theophilus Field
of Prince George County, Merchant, for 43 pounds, that whereas Robert
Donald by virtue of a power given him by James Donald of North Britain,
Merchant, agreed to sell to Theophilus Field of a lot containing half an
acre in the Town of Petersburg in Dinwiddie County, and numbered in the
plan of the said Town #33, and have received the sum of 21 pounds, 10
shillings, Robert Donald shall cause and procure James Donald to convey
to Theophilus Field the lot and half acre within 18 months, then

Stith, Gent., and Elizabeth Eldridge, that whereas a marriage is shortly
intended to be had and solemized between the said Drury Stith and
Elizabeth Eldridge, agreed that Elizabeth shall continue and remain
seized of possessed of her whole estate, real and personal, subject to
payment of such debts as she shall happen to owe and she may dispose of
the same in her own name and without the contract of the said Drury
Stith, either by deed or by her Last Will and Testament. If she shall
survive Drury Stith, she shall be entitled to one-third (1/3) of the
estate of Drury Stith for her dower. If she shall not make any
sidposition of her estate during her lifetime and if she should die
before Drury Stith that Drury Stith shall deliver up the possession of
all lands of the said Elizabeth to her son, Howell Eldridge upon his
paying to his sister, Sarah Eldridge, daughter of the said Elizabeth,
the sum of 100 pounds and shall account with the said Sarah and deliver
up to her, all other the estate which Elizabeth shall die possessed.
Elizabeth Eldridge relinquished and disclaimed all right and title to a
third part of the said Drury Stith estate and to take only a childs part
or whatsoever the said Drury Stith shall think proper to leave her at

Harrison and Jones, Merchants, for 25 pounds, conveying 150 acres

of Mortgage was proved in Court on October 22, 1764, by the oath of John

Indenture made the 8th day of March, 1765, between Col. Benjamin
Harrison, Gentleman of the County of Charles City and Isaac Collier of
the County of Brunswick. Conveying 140 acres located upon south side of
Nottoway River, near Middle Quarter Plantation. Sealed and delivered in
the presence of John Ford, James Hicks, and Josias Smith. Proved on
March 25, 1765. Deed Book 7, Page 365.
Indenture made the 14th day of December 1764, between Benjamin Harrison
of the County of Charles City and Robert Walker of the County of
Dinwiddie. Conveying 1,041 acres on Nottoway River, said tract was
willed to the said Harrison by his father, Benjamin Harrison, by Will
recorded in Charles City County in the year Seventeen Hundred and
(1709?). Indenture also signed by Elizabeth Harrison, his wife.

of Brunswick County, Virginia, and John Berner [also
spelled Barner] of Brunswick County, Virginia.

his wife, parties of the first part, and James Parham, for 100 pounds,
conveying 50 acres on Miry Branch, White Oak on Parhams Branch. Signed
by Robert Hicks and Mary Hicks (her mark). Witnesses were Lewis Lanier,
Zachariah Sims, and Lewis Parham. Page 464.
Indenture made the 11th day of June, 1764, between Robert Hicks and
Stephen Hicks, son of the said Robert, for love and affection, conveying
263 acres, after the death of the said Robert Hicks and Mary, his wife,
and being the tract of land where Robert Hicks now lives on Reedy Creek,
Meherrin Branch, Mire Branch, to mouth of Parhams Branch. Witnesses were
John Clack, Littleberry Stainback, and William Hall or Wall. Indenture
acknowledged in Court in June, 1764, by Robert Hicks. Deed Book 7, Page

Brunswick County and Burwell Grigg of Dinwiddie County, for 130 pounds
for conveyance of 304 acre tract of land. Beginning at Harrison's line
on Sandefors Branch thence along Harrison's line East 190 poles to Red
Oak on the branch, thence up said branch as it meanders to a pine on the
same, thence South 21 degrees West 142 poles, to a pine thence South 69
degrees 86 poles to a pine thence North 44 degrees West 66 poles to
Sandefors line thence along his line North 20 degrees East 52 poles to
his corner Hickory thence North 30 degrees West 100 poles to his corner
pine thence North 71 degrees West 24 poles to Sandefors Branch aforesaid
thence down the meanders of the said branch to the Beginning one hundred
and forty four acres part thereof was formerly granted unto William
Smith by letter patent dated February 2, 1742. Deed Book 7, Page 525.
