Sept. 9, 1779 James & Ursla HARRIS to Randford COX

The Commonwealth of Virginia to Abraham SALLE, David PATTERSON and Granville SMITH Gent., greeting. Whereas James HARRIS and Ursla his Wife by their certain Deed of Indenture have sold and conveyed unto Randford COX the fee simple Estate of thirty four acres of Land with its appertanaces lying and being in the aforesaid County of Chesterfield which Deed of Indenture is dated the fourteenth day of February 1788 and whereas the said Ursla cannot conveniently travel to our County Court of Chesterfield aforesaid to make acknowledgment of the said conveyance. These ..........to give unto you or any two or more of you Power to receive the acknowledgment whereof the said Ursla shall be willing to make before you and the conveyances aforesaid contained in the said Indenture which is hereunto annexed and we do wherefore command you that you do personally to the said Ursla and examine here privately and apart from the said James HARRIS her Husband, whether she doth the same freely and voluntarily without the persuasion or ...... of him said husband and whether she be willing the same should be recorded in our said County Court. And when you have received her acknowledgment and examined her as aforesaid that you .......and openly certify us .......in our .........under you Seals sending ......the said Indenture and the ......Witness Thomas WATKINS Clk, of our said Court at the Courthouse this 9th day of September 1789 and in the fourteenth year of the Commonwealth.

Chesterfield:

Pursuant to the within Commission to us directed we have this day caused to come before us the within names Ursla wife of the within named James HARRIS, who being examined ......sale, and apart from her said Husband James did relinquish here Claim of Dower to the Lands contained in the Deed annexed and is willing the same may be admitted to Record. Given under our hand and Seals this 4th day of June 1790.
