The Episcopal minister of Leeds manor, Rev James Thomson, Thomson is spelled without a "P". He married Mary Ann Farrow, sister of Nimrod Farrow. Thomson was a student at the University of Glasgow, called over to Fauquier County around 1761 by Thomas Marshall to be the area minister, and tutor for his children, one of whom became 4th Chief Justice John Marshall. Thomson tutored Marshall for one year, thening him Latin and Greek.

Rev Thomson taught a school at the Glebe that was also his house. After the dwelling collapsed the stones were taken to build the Episcopal Church at The Plains.

Apparently he had a family Bible that feel into the hands of a Mr. Reid, but it seems that is lost. There were some Thomson descendants that remained in Fauquier, but that branch apparently died out. Some of the lost branch are buried in a cemetery just outside Marshall. There are no markers.

Thompson is a common misspelling of our name. Whether Rev James's Fauquier branch descendants later added the "p" I cannot say.

Rev James Thomson preached Lord Fairfax's funeral. He preached strongly against the Bristish over the colonies. Ok, I'll stop there. You could say the misspelling flushed me out. Sincerely John Thomson Torrence, Irwin H. Towles, John (Espiscopal) Trone, John S. (Methodist) Watts, John Weeks, Alderson (Baptist) White, Joseph Williamson, William (Presbyterian) Withers, James (Baptist) Thats All Folks!!
