HALL / BAKER
I am looking for descendants of George Marion Hall, b. 1828 d. Dec. 1, 1892. His parents were William Hall b. 1788 and Louisa Baker, b. 1792 who were married on July 7, 1810. George Marion Hall operated "the store" and (during the Civil War) the "bar room" at Beaverdam, VA in West Hanover County. The store was sold in 1894 to Everett Terrell who in turn ran the store until 1944 when he sold it to Vance Hall whose grandmother was George Marion's sister. I am seeking decendants of George Marion because, I am quite sure, his first wife, Cassity C. is buried behind "the store" in Beaverdam and the grave is nearly, or by now possibly is, obliterated by a private driveway around the store. The grave with a slate headstone sat very near the roadway in the 40's and no one to my knowledge knew who was buried there. The slate headstone had been broken and parts lost. The remaining pieces had some letters. It was in later years, after I discovered the history of the store and the name of the owners wife, that I deciphered the name on the headstone. There are undoubtly laws on the books in VA regarding graves and the caring of cemetaries and graves. I do not know these laws but suspect that any action would be best taken by decendants of the interred. Please get in touch with me if you are or know anyone who may be a descendant of George Marion Hall. I will be able to direct them to individuals who know the exact location of the grave. chasL33291@aol.com Charles Layne 5/26/97
