ANDERSON / SOUTHARD / SUDDUTH
Seeking any information on a John Anderson who is said to have been born in Hanover County in 1740:
-moved to Wilkes County, GA 1783-1784; verifiable in county deeds
-wife's name verifiable in her Wilkes County will as Mary Southard Anderson; recently Sudduth researchers have corroborated Southard as a variant of Sudduth and they verify marriage between Mary and John in Stafford County, VA in 1770/71; her father identified as James Sudduth who also came to Georgia
-wife's will identifies him as a Revolutionary War veteran (presumably in VA)
-county records verify he died in 1810 in Wilkes County
-their children identified in Wilkes County records as: Thomas b. 1772, John Rogers b. 1785 and daughters Elizabeth/Betsy, Catherine, Sally, Jean/Jane, Frances who married into Davis, Jenkins, Lane, Heard, and Anthony families; some researchers have wanted to tack a Rogers middle name on the father, but I cannot verify that
-one author suggested the Andersons came to Georgia in a group from Virginia led by a Captain Anthony. The Anthonys and Andersons settled near each other in Wilkes County
-he is definitely NOT the Captain John Anderson who served in the Continental line; that man's death has been verified in the mid-West. chasdsag@mindspring.com Charles Danforth Saggus 12/10/97

DRAKE / PRESTON / RUSSELL / SMITH / WADDY
I am trying to track down some elusive Smiths who were connected to Col. William Preston and to the Waddy Family. My Waddy connection is Anthony Waddy and Sarah Drake who were parents of Elizabeth Waddy. Elizabeth married Francis Smith and I believe they were the parents of Susannah, Francis and Parke Smith. Susannah married the famous Col. William Preston and Francis married W.P.'s sister Ann or Elizabeth Ann. These families moved to KY and are connected to Thomas Hart Benton. According to a Henry Strother of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, who had two entries in the William and Mary Quarterly in 1913 and 1914, the Smith lineage begins with Dr. John Smith who m. Elizabeth Ballard. These were the parents of the above Francis Smith and Elizabeth Waddy of Hanover County, VA. It is Parke, whom I believe might well be my ancestor, who remains obscure. I found one deed reference which said he had gone to KY and d. there. Parke or Park Smith was the parent of John Smith, b.c. 1773 and d. Henry County, KY on December 8, 1855, and is b. near Jerico. According to Henry Strother, John Smith m. Mary Storrs Russell, d/o John Russell, a Rev. War officer. My g-g-grandfather was George Strather Smith, b. KY, migrated from MO and was killed in the Bannock Indian War in 1878. I believe he is of this family, and would appreciate any information. Thank you. cmac@oregontrail.net Carolyn M.
