William DALY

William Daly and Lucy Abernathy were married in Mecklenburg County, Virginia by Charles Ogburn on March 10, 1807 with bond by Tignal Abernathy, Jr., and consent by Burwell Abernathy, father of the bride. In 1819 Burwell Abernathy purchased 300 acres in Giles County, Tennessee, from William Ragsdale. By 1820 both families are in Giles County. The area where William and Burwell lived was called Dalytown. By 1836 William owns 438 acres. He built his home near corner of Pettusville road and Hannah Ward road. The couple had seven known children: Lucy; William; George Richard; Thomas B.; Josiah; Caroline Elizabeth; and Samuel Lafayette.

Emarine "Lucy" (ABERNATHY) DALY

Emarine "Lucy" (ABERNATHY) DALY, died in 1834, and is buried in Daly Cemetery on a section of land that had belonged to William. William died in 1854, his will probated in Giles County, Tennessee. It reads... To my sons Thomas B., William, and Josiah Daly, and sons-in-law William J. Kyle (husband of Lucy, she died in 1850) and James W. Bridgeforth (husband of Caroline, she died in 1853) all property they have received of me. To son Samuel L. Daly three slaves, John, Kining and a girl Elen. To grandson William R. Kyle twelve hundred dollars. To grandson Thomas George Richard Daly two slaves Sist and Harriett and twelve hundred dollars. To six grandchildren, John, David, William, Emerine, Lucy, and Anna Bridgeforth, each one thousand dollars as they become of age. My land with balance of slaves to be equally divided between four sons. Sons Thomas and William were executors and divided 984 acres located south of Elk River in Giles County, Tennessee.

William and Emarine (ABERNATHY) DALY

1. William DALY was born on 4 Sep 1783 in Mecklenburg, Virginia. He died on 25 Aug 1854 in Giles, Tennessee. He was buried in Daly Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Giles, Tennessee.

William married Emarine ABERNATHY daughter of Burwell ABERNATHY and Nancy Ann TARPLEY on 10 Mar 1807 in Mecklenburg, Virginia. Emarine was born in 1793 in Mecklenburg, Virginia. She died in 1834 in Giles, Tennessee. She was buried in Daly Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Giles, Tennessee.

They had the following children:

2 F i. Lucy A R DALY was born on 2 Jul 1808 in Virginia. She died on 24 Jul 1830 in Giles, Tennessee.

Lucy married William Jefferson KYLE son of Maj John William KYLE and Rebecca YOUNG on 2 Jul 1827 in Giles, Tennessee. William was born on 20 Nov 1803 in Hawkins, Tennessee. He died in 1864 in Brazoria, Texas.

3 M ii. William E. DALY was born in 1812 in Mecklenburg, Virginia. He died in 1858 in Fayette, Tennessee.

William married Sarah Ann MURRELL on 4 Jul 1833 in Limestone, Alabama. Sarah was born in 1818 in Giles, Tennessee. She died before 1880.

4 M iii. George Richard DALY was born in 1815 in Mecklenburg, Virginia. He died in 1841. He was buried in Daly Cemetery?.

George married Elizabeth Clayton ABERNATHY daughter of Charles Clayton ABERNATHY and Susanah Waddy HARRIS in 1836 in Giles, Tennessee. Elizabeth was born on 20 Oct 1816 in Giles, Tennessee. She died on 17 Oct 1843 in Giles, Tennessee

5 M iv. Thomas Burwell DALY was born on 12 Dec 1816 in Mecklenburg, Virginia. He died on 8 Sep 1873 in Giles, Tennessee.

Thomas married (1) Elizabeth Ann ABERNATHY in 1840 in Giles, Tennessee. Elizabeth was born on 12 Feb 1821 in Limestone, Alabama. She died on 15 Sep 1842 in Limestone, Alabama.

Thomas married (2) Martha Ann ABERNATHY daughter of James ABERNATHY Jr. and Narcissa ABERNATHY on 12 Dec 1844 in Shelby, Tennessee. Martha was born on 6 Dec 1821 in Virginia. She died on 16 Dec 1869 in Giles, Tennessee. She was buried in Daly Burwell Abernathy Cem, Giles, Tennessee.

Thomas married (3) Mary J. ABERNATHY in 1870. Mary was born in 1829 in Tennessee. She died in 1880 in Giles, Tennessee. She was buried in Daly Cem., Giles, Tennessee.

6 M v. Josiah DALY was born in 1817 in Mecklenburg, Virginia. He died in 1871 in Giles, Tennessee. He was buried in Daly Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Giles, Tennessee.

Josiah married Frances HALBERT, daughter of James HALBERT and Lucy, on 8 Jul 1841, in Limestone, Alabama. Frances was born in 1825 in Hardin Tennessee. She died on 28 Mar 1904 in Giles, Tennessee. She was buried in Daly Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Giles, Tennessee.

7 F vi. Caroline Elizabeth DALY was born on 7 Nov 1819 in Mecklenburg, Virginia. She died on 15 May 1853, in Giles, Tennessee.

Caroline married James William BRIDGEFORTH son of David Daniel BRIDGEFORTH and Mariah Danridge HOBBS in 1836 in Limestone, Alabama. James was born on 12 Jan 1817 in Virginia. He died on 12 Mar 1896 in Limestone, Alabama. He was buried in Salem Cemetery, Limestone, Alabama.

8 M vii. Samuel Lafayette DALY was born in 1834 in Giles, Tennessee. He died in 1862 in Mississippi. He was buried in Civil War.

Samuel married Sarah Ann "Sallie" HARGROVE daughter of b HARGROVE on 22 Apr 1852 in Giles, Tennessee. Sarah was born on 2 Nov 1837 in Madison, Alabama. She died on 18 Apr 1900 in Giles, Tennessee. She was buried in Daly Cemetery, Giles, Tennessee.

Josiah and Frances (HALBERT) DALY

1. Josiah DALY was born in 1817 in Mecklenburg, Virginia. He died in 1871 in, Giles, Tennessee. He was buried in Daly Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Giles, Tennessee.

Josiah married Frances HALBERT daughter of James HALBERT and Lucy on 8 Jul 1841 in, Limestone, Alabama. Frances was born in 1825 in, Hardin, Tennessee. She died on 28 Mar 1904 in, Giles, Tennessee. She was buried in Daly Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Giles, Tennessee.

7 M vi. Josiah "Joe " DALY was born in 1852 in, Giles, Tennessee. He died in, Giles, Tennessee. He was buried in Daly Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Giles, Tennessee.

Josiah married Julia ROCHELLE daughter of William ROCHELLE and Mary Ann TOONE on 20 Nov 1872 in Giles, Tennessee. Julia was born on 24 Jun 1853 in Limestone, Alabama. She died on 12 Jan 1929 in Giles, Tennessee. She was buried in Daly Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Giles, Tennessee.

9 M viii. James R DALY was born in 1855 in, Limestone, Alabama. He died on 12 Jul 1915 in Limestone, Alabama.

James married Lula C LOWE daughter of James Jefferson LOWE and Mary A. MILLER on 6 Jan 1881 in Giles, Tennessee. Lula was born on 12 Feb 1861 in Limestone, Alabama. She died in Limestone, Alabama. She was buried in Daly Cem.,, Giles, Tennessee.

10 F ix. Martha Ann DALY was born in 1857 in, Giles, Tennessee. She died in 1877 in, Giles, Tennessee.

Martha married Christopher H VANCE son of James M VANCE and Nancy ARNETT on 13 Oct 1876 in, Giles, Tennessee. Christopher was born in 1854 in, Giles, Tennessee.

11 F x. Rebecca F. "Rosa" DALY was born on 11 Mar 1859 in, Giles, Tennessee. She died on 30 Oct 1911 in, Giles, Tennessee.

Rebecca married Thomas Pettus ROCHELLE son of William ROCHELLE and Mary Ann TOONE on 28 Oct 1875 in, Giles, Tennessee. Thomas was born on 2 Apr 1850 in, Limestone, Alabama. He died on 28 Dec 1929 in Limestone, Alabama. He was buried in Pettusville, Limestone, Alabama.

Will of William DAILEY, Sr.

In Brunswick County Deed Book #3 page 417 it is recorded that on May 5, 1748 William Malone of Bristol Parish in Prince George County sold to William Dailey of St. Andrews Parish in Brunswick 139 acres on the south side of the Meherrin River. The land was part of the patent 279 acres granted to John Ezell on January 12, 1741. William Dailey's will of Jun 28, 1777 reads:

In the name of GOD amen. I William Dailey Senior of Brunswick County being very weak in body but of sound and perfect mind that it is appointed for man once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament praying to ALMIGHTY GOD to receive my soul that gave it to me hoping for the resurrection of eternal life and my body to the dust to be buried in such decent manner as my executor hereafter mentioned shall think fit and as for my worldly estate that the LORD of his infinite mercy has been pleased to bestow on me I give and divide in manner and form following...

ITEM My debts being well and truly paid, I lend unto my dearly beloved wife FRANCES DAILEY one bed and furniture during her natural life ., also the plantation wherein I now dwell, also eight cows, two bay mares, that goes by the name of Fanny and Steamer. Likewise all my stock hogs and sheep and geese and all my household goods of every kind during her life or widowhood, but after her death or marriage My will and desire is that my whole estate then left that is not mentioned out in legacies should be sold and the money equally divided among my children then living.

ITEM I give and devise unto my eldest daughter ELIZABETH MALONE one cow and calf to her and her heirs forever.

ITEM I give and devise unto my daughter MOLLY DAILEY one cow and calf to her and her heirs forever.

ITEM I give and devise unto my daughter SALLY DAILEY one cow and calf to her and her heirs forever

ITEM I give and devise unto my daughter PATTY DAILEY one cow and calf to her and her heirs forever

ITEM I give and devise unto my son WILLIAM DAILEY the plantation whereon he now dwells with the third part of THREE HUNDRED TWENTY ACRES of land to him and his heirs forever

ITEM I give and devise unto my son DENNIS DAILEY the third part of the said tract of land where my son WILLIAM now lives also one bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever

ITEM I give and devise unto my son BENJAMIN DAILEY the plantation where SILVANUS SHELTON now lives with the third part of the tract of land and also onebed and furniture to him and his heirs forever

ITEM I give and devise unto my son ARTHUR DAILEY the great barn and all the lanc I own in the place execpting the plantation and one hundred acres wherein I now dwell, also one desk, one gun adn one bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever

ITEM I give and devise unto my son EDMUND DAILEY the plantation whereon I now dwell with one hundred acres of land also the black walnut chest and table to him and his heirs forever

ITEM My desire is that my other mare and year old colt and the remaining of my estate may be sold and the money equally divided among all my children then living.

ITEM My will and desire is that all the money that is due to me should be received and my debts paid out of the same. and the remainder be returned to my wife in order to supply her and my little children and lastly I appoint GEORGE MALONE AND SACK PENNINGTON executors of this my last will and testament. Signed Sealed and Delivered in presence of JAMES MARSHALL; SACK PENNINGTON; and WILLIAM ROBERTSON

His widow Mrs. Frances married Joseph Williams on May 25, 1789 in Brunswick County Virginia.

Will of William DAILEY, Jr.

Born about 1750, he was the son of William Dailey Sr. and Frances. His first transaction I have found is recorded in Brunswick County Deed Book #14 page 84 on May 12, 1780. William and wife Patsy of Meherrin Parish sold 1/3 of 320 acres received from estate of William Dailey , Sr. to John Sturdivant. The next record found is his will dated April 14, 1800 in Mecklenburg County and reads:

In the name of GOD Amen, I WILLIAM DAILEY, of the County of Mecklenburg, being in perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following; I give unto my beloved wife PATSY DAILEY one cow and calf, one horse, colt and two beds of furniture, one sow and pigs and kitchen furniture and after my wife's death my will and desire is that the things given to her should be equally divided between my two children, VINES DAILEY (married Rebecca Adams October 14, 1795)AND BETSY ADAMS( married Sackfield Adams January 23, 1795). Item; I lend to my daughter BETSY during her natural life one bed and furniture, one cow, calf and after my daughter's death my will and desire is that the things lent to her be equally divided between her children. My will and desire is that all of my property not mentioned should be sold and my just debts paid and the balance of the money I give to my wife PATSY DAILEY I ordain and appoint my friend WILLIAM CREATH (spelling) executor of this my last will and testament, utterly denouncing and revoking other wills by me made. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this TWENTY SIXTH DAY OF JANUARY ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED.
