Statement concerning War of 1812 service of Michael Kelly & naming heirs

08 November 1816
John Hamon personally appeared in court and being duly sworn deposeth and saith that there was marched under his command as a captain from the County of Russell a detachment of militia to Norfolk in the service of the United States, Michael Kelly who served in the 6th Regiment commanded by Col Henry E. Coleman, and died of sickness in said service as a private soldier the 9th day of October 1814. Edward Kelly a respectable person being duly sworn deposeth and saith that the said Michael Kelly left a widow namely Lucretia Kelly and seven children who now reside in the County of Claibourn and the State of Tennessee & that she is yet unmarried he further saith that the following are the names of the said Lucretia’s children; to wit: Biddy, Squire, Nancy, John, Charles, Edward and Milly, the eldest not exceeding the age of 14 years. A register of marriages kept by the clerk of this court pursuant to the laws of Virginia was produced in court from which it appears the said Michael & Lucretia were joined in lawful marriage on the 5th of March 1801.
