War of 1812 Pension Application of Susannah Mann, widow of John Mann

08 November 1816
On application of Susannah Mann widow of John Mann deceased in order to make the necessary proof to entitle her and the children of the decedent to the pension allowed by law - John Hamon personally appeared in court and being duly sworn deposeth and saith that he was in the United States service at Norfolk with a detachment of militia from the County of Russell that under his command the said John served as a private soldier in the 6th Reg’t commanded by Col Henry E. Coleman and died of sickness in said service as a private soldier on the 10th day of November 1814. Edward Kelly a respectable person being duly sworn deposeth & saith that the said Susanna Mann together with the children of the deceased resides in the County of Russell & is yet unmarried. Charles Hicks a respectable peson being duly sworn deposeth and saith that he was present and saw the marriage rites celebrated between the said John Mann and Susanna which took place in this county some time in the year 1813. The said Susanna Mann being duly sworn deposeth & saith that she has one child born to the said John Mann named Polly two years old the 24th of March next.
