On this 13th day of January A.D., One Thousand Eight Hundred and
fifty-one, personally appeared before me, James P. HARRIS, a Justice of the
Peace, duly authorized to administer oaths within and for the County and
State aforesaid, Wm. KENDRICK in the State of Kentucky who being duly sworn
according to law declares, that he is the identical, Wm. KENDRICK who was a
private in the Company commanded by Captain Thos. H. CLARK in the 7th
Regiment of Va Foot Military commanded by Col. Sanders in the War with Great
Britain, that he was drafted at Taswell Co. Va on or about the 4th day of
August A.D. 1814 for the term of six months and continued in actual service
in said war for the term of Three and a half months and was honorably
discharged at Norfolk, Va by a sick discharge on the 16th day of November
A.D. 1814, as will appear by the Muster Rolls of said company. He arrived
at home about the 30th day of April A.D. 1815 having been detained by
sickness five and a half months for which time he rec'd no wages nor any
travelling expenses to return home.
He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty Land to
which he may be entitled under the "Act granting Bounty Land to certain
Officiers and Soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States," passed September 28, 1850 and any supplements or amendments thereto.

WAR of 1812 Declaration of a Widow for Pension

On this 8th day of October, A.D. eighteen hundred and seventy-seven personally appeared before me George W. HUTCHISON, Clerk of the County Court, a Court of Record in and for the said County and State aforesaid, Margaret KENDRICK, aged seventy eight years, a resident of Whites Creek County of Wayne, State of West Virginia, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of William KENDRICK, who served the full period of sixty days in the (1) miltary service of the United States in the War of 1812, and who was the identical William KENDRICK who (2) enlisted in Captain CLARK'S Company of Virginia Militia; that (3) said William KENDRICK was pensioned by certificate no. 8210 under act of Feby 14th 1871 dated Nov 18 1871, that she was married under the name of Margaret SKEAN to said William KENDRICK on the twenty third day of January, A.D. 1814, by Mr. HILTON in Sullivan County Tenn. there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that her said husband died at Whites Creek, Wayne Co. W. Va on the 29th day of September 1872, and that she has not remarried since his death; ect ect....and hereby appoints, with full power of substitution and revocation, Mark POORE of Ceredo, West Va her true and lawful attorney, to prosecute her claim, and obtain the pension certificate that may be issued; that her post office is at Mouth of Whites Creek, County of Wayne State of West Virginia.

On this 12th day of November, A.D. 1877, before the undersigned, a
Justice of the Peace, personally appeared Margaret KENDRICK, who, being
duly sworn, deposeth as follows: I am the widow of William KENDRICK,
deceased, who was a member of Captain Clark's Regiment of Virginia Militia,
that my maiden name was Margaret SKEAN; that I was lawfully married to
said deceased at _____, in the County of Sullivan, State of Tennessee, by
Mr. Hilton on the 23d day of January, 1814; that I had by said maariage
the following children, whose ages and dates of birth are correctly set
forth, to wit:

That these are the only legitimate children of myself and my deceased husband, and that my said husband left no children by any former marriage. That I have made repeated and diligent efforts to procure a copy of the record of my marriage, but have been unable to do so, because I could not learn the address of not get answers from persons having any knowledge. That I cannot obtain the affidavit of the party who performed the marriage ceremony, because do not know his present address nor whether he is alive. That I never abandoned the support of my family, nor permitted any one of my children to be adopted by any other person or persons; that my said husband died on the 29th day of September, A.D. 1872; that I lived with deceased from the date of my marriage up to the date of his death, and that I file herewith the best evidence of my marriage that I can obtain.

And also at the same time personally appeared B.F. DROWN, aged 53 years and
William ADAMS, aged 47 years, of the County of Wayne and State of West
Virginia, to me well known as respectable, credible persons, who, being by
me duly sworn, do severally say that they have known the claimant Margaret
KENDRICK, and her deceased husband William KENDRICK who was a member of
Capt. Clark's of Virginia Militia, 21 and 31 years (respectively) years;
that claimant's maiden name was Margaret SKEANE, and that she was married
to said William KENDRICK on or about the 23d day of January 1814; that
deceased always treated and acknowledged claimant as his lawful wife; and
that they lived and cohabitated together as such, and were so received in
society, and were so regarded by their acquaintances; that they never heard
the fact of their marriage disputed; that they often heard deceased in his
lifetime speak of claimant as his wife; that claimant had said marriage
thirteen children, whose names and ages are as follows: (repeat of names
above)
That they are satified that claimant has made diligent efforts to procure
record evidence of her said marriage, and has been unable to do so for the
reason stated by her. That they are in no way interested, directly or
indirectly, in the claim for a pension for which this affidavit is required.
