Deed
This indenture made the fourth day of October in the year of Christ one thousand eight hundred and sixteen between John Horton and Isabel his wife of Russell County and State of Virginia of the one part and John Bradshaw and Sarah his wife of said county and state of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Horton and Isabel his wife for and in consideration of the sum of thirty dollars lawful money of the United States to them in hand paid by the said John Bradshaw and Sarah, his wife, at or before the unsealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and by these presents do and each of them doth grant bargain and sell unto the said John Bradshaw and Sarah, his wife, and their heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the said county of Russell on the waters of the East Fork of Indian Creek containing by estimation two hundred and twelve acres be the same more or less and bounded as followeth, so wit.
Beginning at a white oak in a valley S.89°E. 36 poles to a maple and sugar tree N.20°E. 31 poles to a poplar and dogwood near the top of a bald hill N.56°E 78 poles to chestnut and locust on the side of a brushy ridge N48°E. 46 poles to a forked white oak and dogwood on the south side of a ridge, corner to John Drake and with said Drake's line S.45°E 150 poles to a Sugar tree in a rocky flat corner to said Drake line and with another of his lines S.51°W. 124 poles passing his corner to a sugar tree S.45°E. 12 poles to a chestnut and three sugar trees in a hollow S.37°W. 16 poles to three sugar trees in the fork of a branch S.30°E 59 poles to a maple and sugar tree S.75°W 33 poles to a sourwood West forty five poles to a gum and sugar tree N.30°W. 55 poles to a white oak N.45°W. 98 poles to a black oak and poplar N10°W. 48 poles to the Beginning.
Together with all the appurtenances, privileges and advantages to the same belonging. To have and to hold the said tract of land and appurtenances unto the said John Bradshaw and Sarah, his wife, their heirs and assigns forever. And the said John Horton and Isabel, his wife, for them themselves and their heirs do hereby covenant and grant so and with the said John Bradshaw and Sarah, his wife, their heirs and assigns the tract of land aforesaid free from the claim or claims of them the said John Horton and Isabel, his wife, or either of them, their or either of their heirs and of all and every person or persons whatsoever shall will and do warrant and forever defend. In witness whereof the said John Horton and Isabel, his wife have hereunto their hands and seal the day and year first above written.

Russell County to wit
We, Harry Smith and George Kendrick, magistrates of the dais county, do hereby certify that John Horton and Isabel, his wife, parties of the within conveyance have duly acknowledged the same before us on the 5th day of Oct. in the year 1816 and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court of Russell in order that the said conveyance may be recorded.

Russell County to wit
We harry Smith and George Kendrick justices of the peace in the county aforesaid in the state of Virginia do hereby certify that Isabel Horton the wife of John Horton parties to a certain deed for the conveyance of real estate to John Bradshaw and Sarah, his wife, bearing date on the 4th day of October 1816 and hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our caounty aforesaid and being examined by us freely and apart from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her she the said Isabel Horton acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and declared that she had willingly signed, sealed and delivered the same and that she wished not to retract it.

The within indenture of bargain annd sale from John Horton and Isabel, his wife, to John Bradshaw and Sarah, his wife, being certified to have been acknowledged before Harry Smith and George Kendrick, Magistrates of said county by the said John and Isabel, she privately examined as the law directs, is admitted to record.
