This indenture made this 12th day of February in the year of Christ, One thousand eight hundred and twenty five between Joseph Dorton and Martha his wife, John Ramsay and Sarah his wife, Thomas Brown and Prisilla his wife, John Meade and Elizabeth his wife, John Dorton and Nancy his wife, Moses Dorton and Gemimah his wife & Edward Dorton & William Dorton and Mary his wife (heirs and co-heirs of William Dorton deceased) of the one part and Jacob Dorton of Russell County & State of Virginia of the other part.

Witnesseth that whereas the said William Dorton having departed this life intestate but having frequently expressed as his wish and desire that the said Jacob Dorton should have a certain portion of the East side of his land lying in the County of Russell and State of Virginia and including where the said Jacob now lives and bounded as followeth, to wit, Beginning on the north side of the Onion knob at a spanish oak and black oak the beginning corner to William Dorton tract of 232 acres and running thence North sixty three degrees West eighty six poles to two white oaks or the west side of the ridge North seventy four degrees West to the public road.

Thence leaving said line and running with said road Westwardly to the East end of a lane, thence leaving said road and running with a cross fence through a field (generally called the middle field), thence a westward direction with a bar of rock on the south side of the plantation (whereof the said William Dorton died seized) to three white oaks corner to John Dorton's land and on a line of the aforesaid tract of two hundred and thirty two acres, thence with said South line sixty five degrees East to a spanish oak and hickory sapling on the side of a knob, thence North sixty one degrees East one hundred and ninety three poles to the beginning.

Now this indenture witnesseth that said Joseph Dorton and Martha his wife, John Ramsay and Sarah his wife, Thomas Brown and Priscilla his wife, John Meade and Elizabeth his wife, John Dorton and Nancy his wife, William Dorton and Mary his wife, Moses Dorton and Jemiah his wife, and Edward Dorton who are legal heirs and representatives of the said William Dorton deceased, for and in consideration of one dollar to them in hand paid, have given, granted, bargained & sold, and by these presents do quit claim and convey all their right, title & intrest in and to the hereunto recited tract ot parcel of land unto the said Jacob Dorton, his heirs and assigns, to have and to hold together with the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto said Jacob Dorton his heirs and assigns from them and their heirs forever.

In Witness whereof they have hereunto set their hands & affixed their seals the day and year above written.....

This Indenture of bargain and sale from William Dorton's heirs to Jacob Dorton, was produced in the Clerk's office of Russell County on the 6th day of September 1825, and admitted to record.

1826 October 12 - Joseph Dorton and Martha, John Ramsay and Sally, Thomas Brown and Priscilla, John Meade and Elizabeth, John Dorton and Nancy, William Dorton and Mary, Jacob Dorton and Edith, Edward Dorton, heirs of William Dorton deceased and co-heirs with Moses Dorton.

Witnesseth: that the said William, deceased having sometime previous to his death expressed it as his desire and wish that the aforesaid Moses Dorton should have and enjoy full possession of a certain portion of his landed estate which is situated on the North corner of the land whereon the said William deceased and being part of a tract of 20 acres purchased from Samuel Ewing, attorney for John Watts and others and part of 232 acres by patent bearing date October 5, 1791 and granted to said William Dorton which said portion on parcel of land lies on Copper creek in the county of Russell.....sum $1.00
