Patrick Henry Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to all to whom the presents shall come, greetings: Know ye, that by virtue and in cosideration of a Land Office Treasury Warrant --- there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said John Thompson assignee of John Kincaid a certain tract or parcel of land containing fifty seven acres by survey bearing date the seventeenth day of March one thousand seven hundred and eighty three lying & being in the County of Washington on the top of Cooper (Copper) Ridge on the head of a small branch of Cedar Creek the waters of Church (Clinch) River and is bounded as followeth to wit, Beginning at a white oak and maple by a path on the top of said ridge and running thence south six degrees east ninety eight poles crossing the branch to a large chesnut and poplar on the side of said ridge, west one hundred and ten poles to a chesnut sapling on the side of said ridge, north twelve degrees east ninety seven to two poplars opposite the head of a deep hollow, north eighty eight degrees east eighty three poles to the Beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its apputenances to the said John Thompson and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said Patrick Henry Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand, and caused the lesser seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond, on the twenty second day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five and of the Commonwealth the ninth.
