Patrick Henry Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to all to whom the presents shall come, greeting: Know ye that by virtue of part of a certificate in right of settlement given by the commissioners for adjusting the Titles to unpatented lands in the district of Washington & Montgomery and in consideration of the ancient composition of one pound sterling paid by John Thompson into the treasury of this Commonwealth there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said John Thompson assignee of Richard Thompson a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and ninety three acres by survey bearing date the thirteenth day of December one thousand seven hundred and eighty three lying and being in the County of Washington on both sides of Weavers Creek the waters of Clinch River and is bounded as followeth to wit, Beginning at a maple and beech at the foot of a large ridge and running thence north four degrees west forty four poles crossing the creek to a white oak on the side of a ridge, north fifty eight degrees east eighty poles to a white oak and gum in a bottom at the foot of said ridge, north forty eight degrees east three hundred and two poles to a maple and poplar at the foot of said ridge, north six degrees east ninety five poles to a sugar tree on a stony spur near a creek, south sixty degrees east forty four poles crossing said creek to a white oak and black on the top of a steep bank, south twenty six degrees east thirty seven poles to a white, north sixty one degrees east two hundred poles to a stake in the ?ags of a meadow, north six degrees east forty seven poles to a poplar and three cherry tree grubs in a hurricane, south eighty degrees east eighty poles crossing two creeks to a stake at the foot of a large ridge, south fifty three degrees west seven hundred and sixty four poles running along said ridge to the Beginning with its appurtenances; to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said John Thompson and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said Patrick Henry Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand, and caused the lesser seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond, on the twenty fourth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five and of the Commonwealth the tenth.
