I James Dixon calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and wishing to dispose of my earthly possessions with which God hath blessed me, while in sound mind and disposing memory, do hereby make this my last Will and Testament.
1st. I will that all my personal estate be sold in the usual manner of such proceedings and that out of the proceeds of the same all my just debts be paid & the balance thereof as well as my real estate I bequeath in the following manner.
2nd. to my loving wife Rachel I bequeath one third of my personal estate after my debts are paid as aforesaid also my dwelling home in which I now live & the lot or field attached to it also one third of the plantation around it and one third of the mills thereon during her natural life.
to my son Nathaniel Dixon I bequeath one dollar in addition to the land I heretofore gave him which land he sold to Elisha Pippen and for the right of which I am bound by promise to said Pipen and hereby acknowledge the same, the description of which is as follows beginning on the top of the clift by the old acadamy and running ___ the same to the path that turns down the hill to a water fence of Elisha Pipens thence up the creek to oposite the spring thence due North through the spring to the back line, thence with said line westward to the middle of a hollow thence a S. W. course so as to strike the end of the ridge field fence about its middle and with the fence to nearly South to a crop fence between the ridge field and the land now occupied by Elisha Pippin and with said crop fence a straight line to Carrs Creek thence down the same to its mouth and up Mocasin Creek to the beginning to be deeded to Elisha Pippin & his heirs forever.
To my son Edmond Dixon I bequeath that part of the tract of land I bought of Isaac Hays bounded on the east and south by the lines before mentioned of the land occupied by Elisha Pippin & West and North by the original lines of the said tract of land to him and his heirs forever.
To my son Moses Dixon I bequeath the balance of the above named tract of land during his life if he be alive, & afterwards to his two children Thomas & Nancy Cosby by his wife Catherine & further I request that the said land be sold by my executors at publick auction to the highest bidder the payment to be in three annual installments & the money so obtained to be put to interest by my executors for the benefit of the said children Thomas & Nancy Cosby when they arrive of age according to law.
To my son William Dixon I bequeath my tract of land known as the mill tract also a small tract of 4 or 5 acres joining the same deeded to me by Samuel Erving including the mill pond reserving to my wife the bequest heretofore made her to him and his heirs forever.
To my son David I bequeath my tract of land known by the appellation of the Solomon Hobbs tract & deeded to me by said Solomon Hobbs, to him and his heirs forever also I bequeath to my son David a lot in the town of Lebanon adjoining the east end of the lot where Command Gillespie now keep a store & enclosed under the same fence to him and his heirs forever.
A certain tract of land lying under Clinch Mountain on the head waters of Cedar Creek adjoining Eli Jacksons land, which tract of land I obtained by my wife I bequeath to her to dispose of as she pleases forever.
All the remainder of my real estate consisting of lands & lots in the town of Lebanon I bequeath to my son John & my two daughters Nancy & Linny to be equally divided amongst them to them and their heirs forever.
The remainder of my personal estate if any there be after the payments of my debts I desire to be divided amonst all my children & that part which would fall to my son Moses I desire to be put to interest for the benefit of his before named children Thomas & Nancy Cosby.
Lastly I constitute & appoint my friend Thomas Dickenson executor of this my last Will & Testament.

At a court of quarterly session continued and held for Russell County on the 9th day of November 1836.
This instrument of writing was exhibited in court as and for the last Will and Testament of James Dixon deceased, and proven by the oaths of Thomas Dickenson and Zachariah Pippin the subscribing witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Thomas Dickenson executor therein named who made oath, and together with Richard B. Long his securities entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of $2000, conditioned as the law directs, certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat of the said will in due form.
