In the name of God. Amen - I John Hammond of Russell County in the State of Virginia being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in the following manner and form following that is to say I give and bequeath unto my beloved mother Elizabeth Hammond single woman the whole of my estate my moovable property of every denomination together with my lands lying in the county aforesaid near Clinch Mountain being two distinct or seperate tracts of land adjoining each other one of them containing forty seven acres of land and the other forty four acres of land with all appurtainances belong in thereunto I further give and bequeath unto my mother Elizabeth Hammond another certain tract of land lying in Montgomery County in Virginia state - containing sixty five acres of land with the appertainances belonging to the same also all debts dues or demands belonging to me of either property or money I will and bequeath the same together with the aforementioned legacies unto my aforesaid beloved mother Elizabeth Hammond to be remain and continue hers her own property and estate forever this being my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set me hand and seal the fourth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen

Signed sealed published and declared by the above named John Hammond to be his last will and Testament in the presence of us who at his request and at his presence have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses to the same

At a court held for Russell County the 4th day of June 1816.
This instrument of writing was exhibited in court as and for the last Will and Testament of John Hammond deceased, and proven by the oaths of Robert Johnson and Sarah Johnson the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and no executor being named therein, on the motion of Elizabeth Hammond devisee under the said will who made oath and together with (blank) her security entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of (blank) conditioned as the law directs, certificate is granted the said Elizabeth for obtaining letters of administration on the said decedents estate with his will annexed in due form.
