In the name of God amen. I John Wood of Russell County and Commonwealth of Virginia, being weak in body by reason of sickness, age and infirmity, but perfect in mind and memory, thanks be to God for all mercies, and calling to mind the mortality of any body knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die Vc do make, constitute and appoint this my last will and testament, that is to say principally first, I recommend my soul to God who gave it, and by body I recommend from the earth from whence it was taken, to be buried in a decent Christian manner and form without _____ or vanity at the discretion of my executor in hope of a joyful resurrection by the almighty power of God, and as for what worldly estate it has pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give and bequeath in the following manner.

First, I request all my lawful debts to be principally paid.

Item, I give Susannah Riley my bare mare, two heifers and ten head of sheep.

I do hereby constitute and appoint my executor to this my last will and testament ratifying and confirming this and this only to be my last will revoking, disannulling all and every other will or bequest by me made confirming this the last. In witness whereof I haveunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal. This _____ day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven.

At a Court of Quarterly Session held for Russell County at the Courthouse on Tuesday the 3rd day of August 1847. This instrument of writing was exhibited in Court , as and for the last will and testament of John Wood deceased and proven by the oath of John Wallis and Isaac Griffith two of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
