WILL OF THOMAS GIBSON

Will Book 5, Page 49
Executed 04 Oct 1836

In the name of God, Amen. I Thomas Gibson of the county of Russell and the state of Virginia, being indisposed in health, but of sound mind and memory, calling to mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die; with these rrreflections, I make this my last Will and Testament, to dispose of what worldly estate it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me with.

First. I recommend my soul to Almighty God who gave it and my body to the dust from whence it came; to be burried decently by my executor, nothing doubting but it will be raised again by the Almighty Power of Almighty God.

Secondly. I give and bequeath to my loving wife Polly Gibson and her heirs forever all my household and kitchen furniture two head of horses, four cows, six head of sheep, a ___ of her choice one half of all the farming utensils, hogs, grain, and crops on hand also, all the meat and money (if any) all of which I wish and desire her to dispose of as she thinks proper. I also loan to her one third of all my lands including my mansion house and one half the spring attached thereunto during her natural life.

Thirdly. I give and bequeath to my nephew Thomas Gibson (son of Samuel Gibson) and his heirs forever all the residue of my estate both real and personal of whatever kind it may be not heretofore disposed of, likewise the one third of my lands loaned to my wife, at her death.

Fourthly. I wish and desire my executor to collect and pay all my just debts, my burial and funeral expenses & in consideration of this my bequeath

And lastly. I do hereby constitute and appoint my nephew Thomas Gibson my executor of this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all other or former Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this thirteenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty five.
