QRYTEXT: I am looking for information on the family lines for HENRY DAVIS b.@1800 and MARTHA PATSY WISE B.@1808 of RUSSEL CO. and possibly Wythe and Tazewell Co. Elizabeth Davis Webb B. 1832 VA, lists Henry as her father on her husband's Civil War pension application. However, it is my understanding that Martha married someone else - WILLIAM HAGERMAN. As Elizabeth recognizes Henry as her father, I am wondering if there is record of her birth parent's relationship somewhere in Russell Co

NAME: Stacey Murphy Wilner
EMAIL: murphtvh@chartertn.net
DATE: Apr 09 2000
QRYTEXT: Looking for information on Edmond Murphy, born between 1803-1809 either in Russell Co. VA or in NC. Some sort of relationship existed between Edmond, Herndon & John Murphy (and probably with Clarissa & Gabriel Murphey) while in Russell Co. and Logan Co.

Edmond married Susannah Clevenger (daughter of Levi & Nancy Elswick Clevenger) of Pike Co. KY on Sept. 1, 1823. According to the Logan Co. 1830 census, they had several children--I have record of only one, William.

In 1827, Edmond signed the petition for the formation of Buchanan County.

Second marriage was to Polly Shortridge b. 1813 in 1840 (daughter of Robert Shortridge and Rebecca Brown); raised a second family in Tazewell Co; Sarah, Elara, James, Robert, Richard, Clarissa Clarinda, Harvey, John, Benjamin and Melisa. Robert and James served in the Kentucky 10th cavalry, the "Yankee Chasers".

Edmond was murdered by Bill Staton in Pike Co. KY around 1859,60 on the elction grounds. Staton was indicted in Floyd Co. but escaped to Ohio and was never tried. Edmond's family begins to use their mother's surname--Shortridge. After a number of years, some change back to Murphy, some do not.

I am looking for information regarding Edmond's parents or family in Russell Co., the members of his first family with Susannah Clevenger and the reasons regarding the murder and resulting name change.

My descendency is through Robert's son Alexander and William's daughter Charlottie (ggrandparents).

ANY information on these folks would be greatly appreciated

QRYTEXT: James Whiteaker was born in Baltimore Co., MD, February 8, 1721, son of Mark Whiteaker and his 2nd wife Elizabeth Empson; Mark's 1st wife was Catherine Teague. James' wife's name was Prudence. Probably Prudence Giles. Their sons were James Jr, b. abt. 1740, Thomas, b. abt. 1742, John, b. abt. 1744, Alexander, b. abt. 1744, Giles, b. abt. 1748, Henry, b. abt. 1749 and Mark, b. abt. 1750. They were in Frederick Co., MD prior to going to Rowan Co., NC about the 1760's. James and his half-brother, Mark, had adjoining farms in the southern part of what is now Davie Co., NC. James is in Madison Co., KY in 1799. I suspect that Mark Whiteaker, b.-1765, (my 4th/5th g-grandfather) Giles Whiteaker, b. 1765-69 & William Whiteaker, b. aft. 1770, of Pulaski & Laurel Cos., KY are linked to James & Prudence, but I have no proof. It's recorded that Giles Whiteaker/Whitaker was in Russell Co., VA in 1830. Any information regarding this family would be "greatfully" appreciated

QRYTEXT: If anyone has genealogical material on Russell County VA, could I possibly get someone to find some documented proof of the marriage of Jacob Ramey Jr.and Sarah Blevins(was Sarah an Indian)? Jacob had a son Daniel Ramey who married Dicy Catherine Hall. They were the parents of Alice Ramey my ggrandmother. If someone can steer me in the right direction I will gladly pay for copies of marriage certificates, birth certificates, etc. I live in Greenup County Ky so it's kind of hard to search these things. I have a picture that says Rameys on the bottom of it, I'm not sure if it's Daniel and Dicy or Jacob and Sarah. The women is surely an Indian and the man looks mixed.
