QRYTEXT: Looking for information on the parents, and their origins, of Thomas A. Hay b. 1769(?) Pittsylvania County. He married Elizabeth Haley in 1789(?) Charlotte County. He may have been the son of John Hay who had emigrated from North Carolina to Pittsylvania and Charlotte Counties; possibly after arriving from Scotland. Thomas and family finally settled in Russell County prior to 1830. Some names and info that may be of some help...

Gen 1. Thomas A. Hay m. Elizabeth Haley
Gen 2. John Wesley Hay m. Elzenia Self
Gen 3. Ambrose Hay m. Phoebe Counts
Gen 4. John Hay m. Nancy Jane Turner
Gen 5. Wiley H. Hay m. Fancy Counts
Gen 6. Carleth Ross Hay m. Private
Gen 7. Private (My Parents)

Can anyone shed some light? This seems to be a sticking point for many researchers of this Hay Family line

QRYTEXT: Can someone help me by looking in the 1840 Russell County Census and see if Alexander Smith can be found. According to the 1850 census he would be 7 years old but family records indicate he should be 13 years old. I am attempting to find his parents.

Ref: 1850 Russell County, Virginia Census, page 317A.
Alexander Smith, age 17, laborer, attending school, born in Russell County, was enumerated in the house of Isam Hall Jr.
Note; If this is correct his year of birth would be 1833.

9 1343 1343 Hall Isam Jr. 29 M Farmer Russell Co. VA
10 1343 1343 Hall Margaret 25 F KY X
11 1343 1343 Hall Elbert W. W. 2 M Russell Co. VA
12 1343 1343 Hall Elisabeth 8/12 F Russell Co. VA
13 1343 1343 Smith Alexander 17 M Laborer Russell Co. VA X

Note: Margaret Hall may be a sister of Alexander, problem with that is she was born in Kentucky, however she may have been born just across the border near Pound Virginia because that is where Terrel Cox settled when he came from Grayson County and Alexander married Terrell's daughter. Thank you so much

QRYTEXT: Researching the line of a Dr. James Huff who married an Obedience Koger. Dr. James was bca 1768 in ??? He was present in the Powell Valley of Virginia perhaps near Yocum's Station->Dryden in 1790. He was a member of the Vincent Hobbs party which killed the Indian Raider BENGE in April of 1794 near Big Stone Gap Virginia. He gave an interview with the Scott County,Abbington Newspaper concerning the killing of BENGE in 1846. He and Obedience Koger were married around 1790 in ???? He and Obedience had the following Children: James Jr. 1793 married Anna Pennington,Nancy 1800 married Nathan Sword, Isaac W. 1802, Winston 1807, and Thomas Jefferson 1810. All of the children were born in the South West Corner of Virginia, again perhaps near Dryden. The couple seemed to have a relationship with a Joseph Koger during the 1790 - 1815 timeframe. Whether Obedience was related to Joseph Koger has not been established. But it appears that Dr. James and Joseph Koger may have been Lee/Russell County Magistrates??? Dr. James and Obedience moved to Harlan County Kentucky around 1818. Obedience died 1855-1862 in Harlan County, Dr. James died 1862 in Harlan County. Seeking any information on the Line, particuarly the parents of Dr. James Huff and/or Obedience Koger
