Alexander VANCE owned 289 acres of land on the North Fork of the Holston River, it was surveyed and recorded in Washington Co. Va. in Jun-1783. I believe that Alexander VANCE may have been related to VANCE'S from Russell Co. Va. This Alexander VANCE was living on this land several years before it was recorded in 1783. I do know his wife's name was Elizabeth and she appeared in the 1860 Letcher County, KY census. She was living with her daughter and son-in-law. Their names are Joseph Bentley and Mary Ann Justice Bentley. They were married 13 March 1843 in Letcher County. It was thought the Justices came from Wise County. Several of thier children live near by including, John Jr.and Parris (my ggg grandfather). 1850 Census records show that he was born in Frederick Co.abt.1785 but I've seen on other census records that his children state their parents were from Tennessee.They first showed up in Russell Co around 1830.I have a lot of info to share but can't get any farther back than John Wright.
