Fall, 1999
Bill was standing just off to the left of this spectacular freestanding staircase when he took my photo. The window at the right of the photo looks into the research library. And you don't have to walk up the staircase unless you want to - the door at the top of the landing is an elevator. Last summer we toured the facility during construction with members of the Kentucky Genealogical Society. The architect who lead the tour told us his inspiration for the circular staircase came from the staircase at the Old State Capitol building. The staircase has been such a popular feature that it is being used in the official logo for the Kentucky History Center.

The Kentucky History Center opened April 1999. It is located at 100 West Broadway in Frankfort, Kentucky. Several years later the name of the history center was changed to honor the late Kentucky Historian Laureate, Thomas D. Clark. It is now the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History.Visit the web site
