David and Rosalia Isaak were grain and cattle farmers, mostly Holsteins. They always milked around 30 cows. Their farm was in the Mannhaven area along the Missouri River, which is Lake Sakakawea now, northwest of Pick City.

In 1928 they built a big dairy barn. In the summer of 1933, it was destroyed by fire, and they lost some animals. The same year they built another big dairy barn. This was also destroyed by fire, in 1946. After that they built a smaller barn which is still standing on the home place where their grandson, Kevin Isaak, and his wife Barbara are now living.

Mrs. Eldor Weisz writes, “David and Rose loved children. If they were with us today, they would have lot to love as they have 53 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren, and nine great great-grandchildren.”

They have one retarded child, Delores Isaak. She is living at the Knife River Group Home in Hazen.

In the winter for entertainment in the evening, they would sing and play cards with the whole family. David just loved music and could play quite a few instruments. He taught his family how to play, so he had his little band. Mostly oldtime music was played.

They were very active in the church and held several church offices. They belonged to the Lutheran church, Missouri Synod.

David Isaak was born 10 Feb 1893, in Parkston, South Dakota. He was the oldest son of August and Katherina Isaak. He came to Mercer County with his parents in 1894.
