Eleonora Margarite (Schmit) Decker 1909-1985

Services for Eleanor M. Decker, 75, of Casper, Wyo., were held Wednesday, July 24, from St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup, Wyo. She died July 19 in Casper.  Pallbearers were Robert (Sparky) Brown, Jack Youngblut, Joe Rozmuz, Robert Kies, Ray Youngblut, and John Delagardelle. Burial was in the church cemetery.   Eleanor was born Aug. 10, 1909, near Bellwood, the daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth Schmit. Survivors include three sons, Joel of Minneapolis, Minn., Donald of Albuquerque, N.M., and James of Casper; a daughter, Beverly Mathes of Casper, 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Pete Schmit of David City.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 1970, three brothers and three sisters.  Among the relatives attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Michael and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Janicek of David City, Mr. and Mrs. Audrey Kreizinger, Mrs. Tony Hiller, Leo Janicek, and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Janicek of Bellwood, and Harold Michael of California.

Funeral Services Held For Caroline Barbara Dehner (1890-1962)

Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning, Oct. 5. at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Caroline Barbara Dehner, 72; who died, Oct. 22 at the home of her sister, Mrs. Mary Sauser in. David City. She had been ill about four years.  Msgr. A. J. Lisko officiated and music was provided by St. Mary's School choir.  Members of the P.C. C. W. and Living Rosary attended .the services in a body.  Serving as pallbearers were Leonard Zavodny, John Dehner and Dennis, Duane, Eugene and Ronald Zegers. Burial was from St. Mary's and St. Peter's Cemetery, Bellwood.  Miss Dehner, daughter of John N. and Catharine (Medinger) Dehner, was born Sept. 4, 1890 near Octavia.  She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Sauser, with whom she had made her home; and two brothers, Mike Dehner of Brainard and Henry Dehner of David City.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Michael Stephen Dehner 1892-1973

Services Held Wednesday For Michael Dehner

Michael S. Dehner, 80, of David City, died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 7, at his home.   The son of John Dehner and Katherine Medinger, he was born Oct. 11, 1892, at Octavia.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and was a World War I veteran.  He is survived by his wife, Bertha (Behne) Dehner; two daughters,. Mrs. Anton (Margaret) Furasek of Weston and Mrs. Leonard (Helen) Zavodny of David City; one sister, Mrs. Mary Sauser of David City; and five grandchildren.   His parents, daughter, Mary Ann, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.   Funeral services for Mr. Dehner were held Wednesday morning, Oct.10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

John N. Delahamet (1844-1935) obit

John N. Delahamet, age 90 died Friday at his home 2 miles east of Bellwood, b. Luxemburg, Germany, Dec. 1844. Came to U.S.A. as young man to Cascade, Iowa.  Here he married Mary Strang a native of Germany. In 1883 moved to Ne. Mrs. Delahamet died 1 April, 1930. Surv. dau. Miss Margaret, Mrs. John Fohl, and Mrs. Peter Birkel, Mrs. Frank Eller. Bur. Luxemburg Cem.

Mary Strang, b. Luxemburg, Ger. 5 May 1852. d.1 April 1930, east of Bellwood, Ne.   Married J. N. Delahamet 8 Feb.1876, then came to U.S.A., lived Cascade, Ia.  6 yr. 1882 to Butler co.Ne. Celebrated 50th wedding anniv.1926. Member St. Peter's Church. Surv. husb. 4 dau. Miss Margaret, Mrs. John Fohl, Mrs. Peter Birkel, Mrs. Frank Eller. Those attending from out of town. Anna Meysenburg Demuth

Mrs. Anna Demuth, 84, one of the pioneer settlers of Butler County, died Jan. 18, at the home of her son, N. M. Demuth, five miles north of David City.  A native of Sandweiler, Luxemburg, she and her late husband, Mike Demuth, located in Bone Creek Township in 1870. In those early years, she endured the pioneer hardships of drought, grasshopper swarms and windstorms with the hopeful faith that was the pioneer spirit.

Florence Demuth Funeral Services Conducted April 21

Services for Florence Ann Demuth of David City were conducted Saturday morning, April 21. from St. Mary's Church. Mrs. Demuth, 79, died Thursday, April 19; at the Butler County Hospital.  The Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated by Fathers Bradley Zitek, Gerald Vap and Mark Sieker. Pat Hanus was the organist. Members of St. Mary's PCCW attended in a body.  Pallbearers were Scott Hartz, Marty Demuth.. Matthew Hruska, Norbert Meysenburg, Greg Scholz and Leonard Adamy. Burial was in the Bellwood Marietta Cemetery.  Relatives and friends from Platte City, Mo., Alliance, Lincoln, Kearney, Octavia, Columbus, Omaha, Hastings. Gresham, Neligh, North Platte, McCook and towns surrounding David City and Bellwood attended the services.  Florence Demuth, the daughter of Peter and Rose (Hilger) Hiller, was born October 17.1910, at Bellwood. She attended school at Marietta.  On April 6, 1937, she was united in marriage to Walter John Demuth at St. Peter's Church in Bellwood. Three children were born to this union.   A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and PCCW, she lived in the Bellwood and David City areas.  Survivors include one son, Michael Demuth of David City, two daughters, Mrs. Gene (Rose) Hartz of Lincoln and Mrs. Steve (Judy) Dey of Gresham: three brothers, Francis Hiller of Omaha, Chris Hiller of Columbus and Tony Hiller of Bellwood: four sisters, Mrs. Paul (Eva) Meysenburg of David City, Mrs. Marlin (Mary) Scholz of Bellwood. Mrs. Robert Veronica) Becker of Omaha and Mrs. Robert (Rose Ann) Moran of Alliance; and eight grandchildren.  Her parents, husband, five brothers and sisters including Paul, Edward and Harry Hiller and two children who died in infancy preceded her in death.

Jacob W. Demuth 1870-1937

DEATH OF J. W. DEMUTH
PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY
HAD BEEN RESIDENT OF BUTLER COUNTY FOR 66 YEARS

Funeral services were held from Presentation Catholic church; Luxemburg on the valley, at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday for Jacob W. Demuth who passed away at his home at 5:30 Saturday afternoon from heart failure. Conducting the services were Rev. John F. Ekeler; pastor, celebrant; Rev. J. J. Hoffman of Manley, deacon, and Rev.; Ferdinand Mock of Crete, sub-deacon. Requiem High Mass was sung by the church choir. The pallbearers were Frank Steiner, Mike Birkel, H. S. Smith, Pete N. Reisdorff, J. J. Meysenburg and Anton Shonka. Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, Bellwood.  Jacob W. Demuth was born on September 25, 1870, in Luxemburg settlement on the valley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Demuth, and was 66 years four months and 26 days of age at time of death. He had spent his entire life farming in Butler County where he had many warm friends who regret his passing. Jacob W. Demuth and Miss Mary A. Frieden were united in marriage at St. Mary's church on the valley on November 19,1895. To this union five children were born, two sons, Mike Demuth of Fremont and Walter Demuth of the valley, and three daughters, Mrs. Anna Hoffman and Mrs. Clara, Birkel of David City and Marie Demuth on the valley who with Mrs. Demuth survive.  Mr. Demuth is also survived by one brother, N. M. Demuth, and six grandchildren.  Mr. Demuth had recently recovered from an attack of flu and or was seemingly quite we1l, when he passed away with a sudden heart attack. He was a member of Presentation church and a devout Catholic.

Katherine (Beckius) Demuth 1877-1915

DEATH OF MRS. N. M. DEMUTH
Passed Away in the David City Hospital

Mrs. Katherine Demuth, wife of Nicholas M. Demuth of Bone Creek township, died in the David City hospital at 7:30 o'clock Wednesday evening; Aug. 4, from blood poisoning after illness lasting seventeen days. She was taken sick July 10 and was immediate1y brought to the David City Hospital, where all that skilled medical treatment and efficient and faithful nursing could do was done. Her husband and children, at her bedside much of the time during her illness, were with her when she died.  On the morning following Mrs. Demuth's, death she was taken to her home in Bone Creek township. The funeral services were held in St. Mary's' church, Luxemburg, in Savannah township, on Friday, Aug. 6. There was a large attendance of friends to pay respect to the memory Mrs. Demuth, who was highly regarded by a large circle of friends.  Rev. Father Mock, pastor of St. Mary's church, Luxemburg, had charge of the funeral services. He was assisted by Father Hoffman of Bellwood, Rev. Father Hoffman of Falls City and Rev. Father Bickert of Rulo, the last two named being former pastors of St. Mary's church, Luxemburg. Requiem high mass was sung by Father Hoffman, of Falls City and an eloquent sermon was preached by him in which heartfelt sympathy for the bereaved relatives was expressed especially for the bereaved husband and children. Interment was in St Mary's cemetery, Luxemburg. The pallbearers were five brothers of Mrs. Demuth and the brother of Mr. Demuth, John Beckius, Nick Beckius, Peter Beckius Matt Beckius, Neal Beckius and J. W Demuth.  Mrs. Demuth was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Beckius, early settlers of Butler county. She was born in Belmont, Wisconsin, August, 21 1877.  When she was one year old her parents moved to Nebraska settling in Colfax county, where they and she lived for three years, then moving to Butler county. She was married to N. M. Demuth in this county February 1, 1898.   Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Demuth namely, Nicholas, Alphonse, Genevieve and Joseph. They and her husband survive her. She is survived also by her mother and five brothers and six sisters, namely John Beckius of Cedar Rapids, Neb., Mrs. Mary Schmidt of Bellwood, Nicholas, Peter, Matthew, Cornelius, Beana and Ruth Beckius of Octavia, Mrs. Anna Vandervegt of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Lena Vandervegt of Edholm and Mrs. Elizabeth Meysenburg of David City, twin sister.

Michael Demuth 1842-1921

Michael Demuth, one of the oldest residents in Butler County, had been living here since 1870, and passed away this last Friday, after a longish illness at the ripe old age of 79, in his son's (N.M. Demuth's) apartment.  He was born October 7, 1842 in Sandweiler, Great Duchy of Luxemburg, and came to America in 1865. The first five years he spent in Cascade, IA where he worked as a deputy post master for a while, and where he married Miss Anna Meysenburg in 1868. In 1869, he moved to Bone Creek Township in Butler County, Neb. where he lived as a farmer for 51 years. He is mourned by his wife, his sons J. M. and N..M. Demuth, his brother Jacob Demuth in David City, Neb., and an elder sister in the old country. The deceased was a good husband, good father and loyal citizen, respected and loved by all who knew him. His memory will be honored by the members of St. Mary's congregation which he also belonged to. The burial will take place Monday, December 19 after a memorial service at St. Mary's Church in Luxemburg, Neb. May he rest in peace. Our condolences to the mourning relatives.  Giving thanks to all who showed their respect and sympathy for our darling husband and father, during his illness, and after his passing, and to all, who gave their last respects when he was sent oft to his final resting place, as well as for all those beautiful gifts of flowers, we wish to express our sincerest thanks. Michael B. Demuth 1888-1968

Funeral Services Held Monday Morning For Michael B. Demuth, 79

Funeral services for Michael B. Demuth, 79, were conducted Monday morning, Feb. 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Concelebrating the Requiem Mass were the Rev. James A. Demuth, Msgr. A. J. Lisko, and Rev. Richard Sladky.  Mr. Demuth died Thursday, Feb. 15, at the David City Hospital following a week's illness.  Members of the Knights of Columbus attended the services in a body. Pallbearers were Richard Demuth, Wilfred Homan, Joseph P. Nicolas, Richard Meysenburg A. J. Meysenburg, and Joseph F. Meysenburg, all nephews.  Relatives coming from a distance to attend the services were from Dodge City, Kans., St Louis, Mo., Westside and Missouri Valley, Iowa, and Ravenna, Omaha, Lincoln, Grand Island, Kearney, Columbus, Shelby, Rising City, Bellwood, Ulysses and Surprise.  Michael B. Demuth, the son of Jacob Demuth and Elizabeth Schmit, was born June 11, 1888, on his father's homestead north of David City, where he farmed until 1932 when he moved to David City.  On Nov. 25, 1932, he was married in Gothenburg to Alberta Vermeulen Wink who preceded him in death in 1955.  He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Tihen Council, Knights of Columbus.  Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.  Survivors are a sister, Mrs. J. C. (Mary) Nicolas of Columbus, a brother, N. S. Demuth of David City, and many nieces and nephews.

OBITUARY OF MICHAEL W. DEMUTH 1863-1939

M. W. Demuth, resident of Butler county for a number of years, moving to Elgin 23 years ago, passed away Sunday evening, July 30, at the home of his son, Nick B. Demuth, in Tilden, where he had resided for the past three months. Previously to that he had made his home with his son, Mike A. Demuth at Creighton, for seven years. He had been in failing health for four years and was in his 76th year.

Born in Paris, France, October 19, 1863, he came to America with his parents at the age of 17 years, the family locating in Butler county on the valley farm north of David City, which is now occupied by Peter and Katie Demuth. He was united in marriage to Leonia Mueller in St. Mary’s church, Luxemburg, on April 11, 1892.  To them were born seven children, of whom three have passed on. The surviving children are:  Mike A. Demuth, Creighton; Nick B. Demuth of Tilden; Miss Theresa Demuth, of Plattsmouth; and Mrs. Lucy Goetzinger, of Hemingford.

Mr. Demuth is survived also by four sisters:  Mrs. Caroline Medinger of David City, Mrs. Mary Mackel of Elgin, Mrs. Jennie Esch of Mason City, and Miss Katie Demuth of David City; and two brothers, John and Peter Demuth of David City.

Funeral services were held in the Carmel Catholic church in Tilden at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, in charge of Rev. Father Built.  The pallbearers were Emiel, Edward and Clarence Medinger and John, Nick and Edward Mackel, nephews of Mr. Demuth.  Burial was in the Luxemburg cemetery by side of the grave of Mrs. Demuth.

All of Mr. Demuth’s children were present at the funeral.  Relatives in attendance from David City were Miss Katie and Peter Demuth, Mr. and Mrs. Emiel Medinger, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Medinger,  Clarence Medinger, and Mr. and Mrs. Nick Remakel.
