SEMERAD, JAMES ANTHONY [May 29, 1914 - June 15, 1972]
FUNERAL AT TABOR FOR JAMES A. SEMERAD
    Funeral service for James A. Semerad, 58, of the rural Howells Dodge area, was held Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tabor. Mr. Semerad passed away Thursday, June 15 at his farm home. He had been in failing health since suffering a stroke in September 1965.
    A prayer service at the Humlicek Funeral Home in Howells preceded the 10 a.m. requiem Mass at the church. The Rev. Father Anthony Pluhacek was celebrant of the Mass and officiated at the interment in the parish cemetery. Organist, Mrs. Lumir R. Sindelar accompanied the adult choir. Pallbearers were nephews, Marvin and Glen Semerad, David Reznicek, Dennis Praest, Vernon Milhulka, and a cousin, Alvin Semerad. The rosary was prayed by public at the Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. Friday, with Father Pluhacek officiating.
    James Anthony Semerad was born May 29, 1914 on the farm of his parents, Joseph and Marie (Budin) Semerad in the Tabor Community of Colfax County southeast of Howells. His education was received in Colfax County Rural District 29. He and Adeline Vogeltanz were married Feb. 7, 1939 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge by the Rev. Father Francis Oborny. Since their marriage the couple farmed in the Tabor community, a short distance from the place of his birth, until he was forced to retire due to failing health. Mr. Semerad was bedfast at his home for 3 and one-half years during which time devoted care was given him by his wife, a most commendable act of love and patience.
    He was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tabor, and was a past member of the Colfax County Rural School District 29, serving as Secretary.
    Survivors include his wife, Adeline, Dodge; one son, Leonard, Dodge; three daughters, Mrs. Glen (Lorene) Dlouhy, Howells, Mrs. Ervin (Gladys) Tichota, Schuyler, Mrs. Frank (Norma Ann) Hledik, Jr., Clarkson; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Louis, Howells, and Joseph, Dodge; and two sisters, Mrs. Adolph (Emma) Reznicek, North Bend, and Mrs. Frank (Mary) Marik, Sr., Howells. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1946 and his father in 1964.
