MRS. JOS. PAVEL DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS
Came to Colfax County at Age of 6 Months and Resided Here For 62 Years
The silent messenger came early Tuesday morning of this week to
Mrs. Catherine Pavel, the beloved wife of Jos. Pavel, residing on a farm in
the Bissell vicinity. She passed away at five o¹clock in the morning
following a week of serious illness. Mrs. Pavel was a resident of this
county for a period of 62 years, having arrived here from Moravia with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Jonas, when a babe six months old.
She was born November 23, 1876. The Jonas family upon their
arrival here from the old country in 1877, took out a homestead in Wilson
precinct, nine miles south of the site where the village of Clarkson was
later established. The deceased pioneer spent her girlhood in Wilson
precinct and in January 1894 she became the wife of Jos. Pavel. Mr. and
Mrs. Pavewl established their home on a farm in this vicinity and with the
exception of about four years which they spent in the vicinity of Morrision
(sic), Oklahoma, they made their home in Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. Pavel were
the parents of eleven children, all of whom with the exception of one son
survive their mother.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Pavel is survived by five daughters
and five sons. The are: Rosie, wife of James Havel, living in on (sic) a
farm in Stanton Co.; Anna, wife of Emil Pavlis, Wheeler Co.; Mary, wife of
Adolph Bartak, Wheeler, Co.; Agnes, wife of Edward Lueke, Colfax Co.;
Libbie, wife of Emerson Loeseke, Colfax Co., Joseph of Columbus, Ben of
Dodge; Edward of Ewing; John and Louis of Schuyler. One son Adolph, lost
his life in an aeroplane accident at Fremont ten years ago. Mrs. Pavel also
leaves a sister, Mrs. Victoria Urban, residing in Wheeler county and a
brother, Thomas Jonas, living near Utica, New York.
Funeral arrangements have made (sic) for Thursday afternoon at
one o¹clock with burial from the family home near Bissel. Services will be
conducted by Rev. B.A. Fillipi at the Z. C. B. J. opera house. Interment
will be in the Clarkson cemetery. Mrs. Pavel held membership in the Z. C.
B. J. lodge of Clarkson.
