William Bos Buys Minden Creamery
Iowa Man and Son To Operate Minden Creamery
And Are Welcomed to Minden.

J. C. Lenker and Family Are To Remain
For Present; Future is Indefinite

William Bos of LeMars, Iowa, has purchased the Minden Creamery from J. C. Lenker. The deal was made Saturday and Mr. Bos has already taken possession of the creamery. His son, Gerald, who was recently discharged from the army is expected to arrive soon and will assist his father in operation of the business.  Gerald is now employed as territory superintendent for the Beatrice Creamery at Sioux Falls, S.D.

Mr. and Mrs. William Bos have three children now attending Junior High in LeMars.  They are Donald and Dorothy, age fifteen and Lois, age thirteen.  Mrs. Bos and the younger members of the family will remain in LeMars until the present school term is completed. At that time they will occupy the Lenker home.

Mr. Bos has been in the creamery business for 25 years and will be a welcome member to Minden’s business life.

Mr. and Mrs. Lenker and children, Charlene and John, moved here from Falls City in 1944 and at that time opened the creamery for business. They have enjoyed the full support of their customers and have conducted their business in such a way as to an asset to the town.  They recently expanded their interests to include the route to Franklin, and Mr. Bos will continue that plan.

At present, Mr. and Mrs. Lenker’s plans are indefinite. They will remain here at least until school is over for this year.

Pasteurized milk is the most nearly perfect food available and everybody should eat twice as much as they do—what a large measure of farm relief that would be.  Be sure to ask for our Chocolate Milk, Cottage Cheese, and “Minden Maid” Butter.

Creamery Sets Butter Record

Minden Creamery “stepped out” the first of the week and Monday produced 5,000 pounds of butter.  That represents 12,000 pounds of cream bought from their territory which includes five states.

Gerald Bos, and his expert assistants, handled this order in 14 hours.  It’s work, too. For that amount of cream meant that they handled around 225 cream cans, dumping the cream, washing, steaming and sterilizing them. Further processing included pasteurizing and churning.

This shipment was in transit the next morning by eight o’clock. The finished butter was not placed in cartoons, but sent as a bulk shipment to Arden Farms, Los Angeles, California, for retail trade.

Minden Creamery Started New Building

The Minden Creamery, owned by Wm. Bos, started construction on a new building this week. The new structure is to be erected south of the creamery building and is to be 36x54 feet. Made of cement blocks, it will be used to handle supplies, for the poultry and egg part of the growing business. The boiler, now located in the old building, will be removed and placed in the new one.

The original creamery building will be used exclusively for processing milk, cream and butter.  Mr. Bos stated they hoped to have the new building completed by September first.

New Service By Creamery

William Bos and son, Gerald, of the Minden Creamery recently announced a new service to their patrons living on the Union Pacific railroad in the Kearney area.

The creamery now makes daily trips to Kearney where they meet the trains, bring the cream from that point and return the empty cans the next day.

The new arrangement serves both the Minden establishment and their customers as well.
