The City of Seward was incorporated. Board of Trustees: L. Walker, Fred F. Larkins, W.R. Davis, George Krum, Samuel Manley. O.T.B. Williams was corporation attorney.

1872, an act of the Legislature formed Seward into a representative district. In the fall, W.J. Thompson was elected representative, but he resigned shortly after the election. Commissioner Samuel Manley succeeded Wm. Imlay. County Treasurer M.A. McPherson was arrested and charged with embezzlement.

1873, in January a special election was held and D.C. McKillip was elected representative. In February, County Surveyor J.H. Anderson resigned and John V. Ainsworth was appointed. In the the October election, Benjamin Hunkins replaced William Hornburg.

1874: in February Probate Judge H. Wortendyke resigned and O.T.B. Williams was appointed to the position. In October, M. Dunigan was elected to succeed D.H. Harris as county commissioner.

1875: In the October election, W.G. Haselwood succeeded Samuel Manley.

1879 November. County Commissioner Levi Bates was killed in an altercation at Bates School House in early March 1880. He was succeeded by Michael Dunnigan.
