Lake County Ohio GenWeb Index to "Ancestral Trails"

Mildred Hoyes Steed, a member of the DAR and founder of Lake County Genealogical Society, did a lot of research on Lake County Revolutionary War Soldiers. She wrote a series of articles on these soldiers for The Painesville Telegraph in 1975 and 1976. In 1885, this research culminated in the book Soldiers and Widows of the American Revolution who lived in Lake County, Ohio. There was a similar DAR book from 1902, and this is expanded, updated, and corrected. There is an index to the "main characters" of this updated book in the Book section of this site.

In 1976 Mrs. Steed mailed the clippings of these articles to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. They immediately microfilmed them. They have more recently been digitized and can be found on the FamilySearch site. They are not yet indexed, but can be found in the catalog under "Ohio, Lake" and then under "Biographies." They are also under "Images." These images are not all the best microfilming. There were repeat shots done on several of them, so check ahead and behind the image given here. Morley Library has the microfilm of the newspaper where a better copy could be obtained. There is also a scrapbook of these articles (and perhaps more) at Morley Library.
