WILL OF WILLIAM SANDERS

The State of South Carolina

I William Sanders of Sumter District in theState aforesaid, planter do make and ordain this my last Will andtestament-----------------------------------------------------

Item -- I give to my son Garner Sanders all thattract of land containing Six hundred acres,purchased by me of RobertRogers, Excepting one hundred acres thereof to be laid out of thatpart of the said land lying most Contiguous to the land upon which Ireside----------------------------------------------------------------------

Item I give to my two sons John Sanders and MarionSanders five hundred acres of land purchased by my of general ThomasSumter also all the lands I inherited or may inherit from the Estateof my father to be Equally divided betweenthem------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Item I have to my son William Sanders theplantation upon which I now reside consisting of a hundred and fiftyacres: also fourteen acres of land adjoining there to which Ipurchased of John Langstaff and also the one hundred acres of landreserved out of the tract of land before allotted to my Son GarnerSanders---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Item -- I give to my daughter Elizabeth the Wifeof Doctor William Ballard a tract of land called Catch -- allpurchased by me of John Bradford Senior.---------

Item -- In lieu or Stead of lands I give to myDaughter Ephatha Sanders any two negroes she may select or choose outof the whole number I own--------------------

Item - I give to my grand Son John Osburn ErasmeusSanders Son of Garner Sanders one negro child calledSarah-------------------------------------------------------------

Item - I give to my son Garner Sanders thefollowing negroes now in his pofsefsion (that is to say) Jack, Jose,Wilson, Lydia and her two children and Nan-- The value of thesenegroes. I wish deducted out of his portion on a general division ofmy property intended herein after to be directed--------------

Item -- I wish my said Daughter Elizabeth to leavethe use of the following negroes (that is to say) Monk, Kins, Patty,Aggy and Fillis; the value of these negroes I wish to be deducted outof her portion on a general division of my property intended hereinafter to bedirected-------------------------------------------------

Item -- I wish my said Son John to have when hearrives at the age of twenty one years the following negroes (that isto say) Ben, Woodley, Mary, Suckey and Adam, and to Settle if hethinks proper on some part of the land herein before alotted to him-- The value of the negroes given him I also wish deducted out of hisportion on a general division of my property intended herein after tobedirected-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Item -- The whole of my Estate and Sffaety notherein before given and devised, I wish Equally divided at theexpiration of Eight years from this time between my said childrenGarner, Elizabeth, John, Marion, Ephatha and William Share and Sharealike, deducting as I have herein before directed the value of thenegroes Specifically given to Carner, Elizabeth and John from theirportionsrespectively------------------------------------------------------------------------------I wish also the negroes that I may intitled by the last Will of myFather, at the death of my Mother, be Equally divided between my saidchildren, Garner, Elizabeth, John , Marion, Ephtha andWilliam------------------------------------------------

Item -- My new House I wish completely finishedand the proceeds of the annual Crops until the general division ofproperty herein before directed takes place, over and above what mybe necefsary for the Support and Education of my four youngestchildred (that is to say) John Marion, Ephatha and William, I wish myExecutors herein after appointed to vest and lay out in negroes to bealso divided between my Said Sixchildren--------------------------------

Item -- I wish my three Sons John, Marion andWilliam to receive regular Collegiate Educations My daughter Ephatha,I wish continued at Salem whereshe is now at School, until Shearrives to the age of fourteen years, then to be sent for the term oftwo winters to the best female Academy in Charleston--Until thegeneral division before directed takes place, my Executors aredirected to cloth my Said four youngest children in a way Suited totheir fortune--They are also directed to put to interest when thegeneral division aforementioned is made two hundred Dollars or Suchsum as may be necefsary over and above a bond I hold given by JamesB. Richardson, Matthew James, and Thomas Maples to pay and Satisfycertain legacies left by William Ragan,deceased------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wish also all the Brood-Mares and surp horsesupon my plantation, Sold within twelve months from thistime--------------------------------------------------------------

Item I do ordain, Constitute and appoint BarwallFort, Reuben Arthur and James Kendrick my lawful Executors, I alsoappoint my Sons Executors as they Shall respectively respectivelyarrive at the age of twenty one years of and to this my last Will andtestament-----------------------------------------------------------------------

In Witnefs whereof I have here unto Set myhand and Seal this twenty fifth day of January in the year of ourLord One thousand Eight hundred and Sixteen
