Elias Richard Hodges

Elias Richard Hodges, b March 30, 1840 in Brooklyn, Conecuh County, Alabama, d August 1, 1905 at Lott, Falls County, Texas, and buried in Live Oak Cemetery near Lott - a son of Homer Virgil and Jane Elizabeth (Dean) Hodges. Elias enlisted in 1861 in the Confederate States Army, and served in Company H, 2nd Alabama Calvary, Ferguson's Brigade, Army of Tennessee, until the war ended in 1865. About 1867, he moved from Alabama with his parents, settling in Falls County, Texas.

In 1869, in Falls County, Elias Richard Hodges married first to Margaret ("Maggie") McPherson, b March 7, 1848 in Alabama, d July 22, 1880 in Falls County, Texas and buried in Live Oak Cemetery near Lott - a daughter of William and Mary McPherson. He married secondly in 1882 to Dora Daffin, b ca 1860 in Alabama, d in Waco, Texas - a daughter of Andrew Jackson Daffin. By his first wife, Margaret, Elias had live children; and by his second wife, Dora, he had six children: (By m1),

William Elias Hodges, b in 1871 at Lott, married Effie Fannin; Frank Lester Hodges, b December 28, 1873 at Lott, d October 9, 1955, married June 8, 1911 to Beatrice McCoy, b September 9, 1887 - a daughter of Robert Snell and Louisa Ann (Hagens) McCoy; Ethel Hodges, b in 1875 at Lott, d in 1919, married John Bothwell Williams, and reared two nieces, Jane Quinn Williams and Ethel Quinn Hodges; Margaret Ann Hodges, b in 1877 at Lott, d January 8, 1955, married Jack Hailes; and Edward Hodges, b December 28, 1879 at Lott, d October 5,1880 after his mother died in July. Horace Hodges, b ca 1883 at Lott; Carrie Hodges, b in 1885 at Lott, married first to J. F. Kennedy, and secondly to Sam Lane; Erin Hodges, b in 1888 at Lott; Geneva Hodges, b in 1890 at Lott, married E. E. Wright; Raymond Hodges, b in 1893 at Lott - never married; and Karyl Hodges, b in 1897 at Lott - never married. Sons, Dr. Erin Hodges and Raymond Hodges, both serving in the military during World War I.
