From circa 1908 to the early 1930s Sherman had a downtown YMCA, in addition to the one on the Austin College campus. The above
postcard image shows the building, which was erected after November 30, 1907, the closing date for submission of construction bids. John Tulloch was the architect.



Below is an image of the back of the postcard for its 1909 postmark.



The 1922 classified ad verifies that the YMCA's address was 318 N. Travis Street. Sherman city directories list it as 318-320 N. Travis from 1910 through 1930 (the 1910 directory actually says 218-220, but I believe that's a misprint).



The 1935 directory has no listing for a YMCA. It shows that the building at 320 N. Travis had become the New Commercial Club. The building is no longer there.
