Clemente "Mike" Ramirez Clemente "Mike" was about 16 years old when this picture was taken. Mike
was born November 23, 1902 in Webberville, Travis Co., Texas, a
son of Serapto Ramirez (1868-1954) and Celemncia Otero (1868-1952); his
brothers were Phillip Ramirez, who lived in McKinney, and Pat Ramirez,
who lived in Dallas. He married Pearl Garza, who was born in
California. They had six children:
Mike
was a rancher in Hunt County, Texas until 1942, when the family moved
to Tioga, Grayson Co., Texas and Mike went to work for the Texas &
Pacific Railroad; they were the only Mexican family living in Tioga at
the time. The people of Tioga considered him a wonderful person
and a very loving & caring father. He would not allow his
children to date the Anglo kids because he didn't feel it was right.
Pearl died shortly thereafter in 1949, so Mike's parents lived
with them for several years to help raise the children; Pearl was buried in the Pilot Point Community Cemetery, along with their son, Anthony "Tony". He retired from the railroad after working 35 years. In 1957 after Mollie graduated from Tioga High School, he moved his family to Denton, Denton Co., Texas. Mike died at the age of 69 in a Dallas hospital. His funeral was held in the St. Thomas Catholic Church of Pilot Point, Denton Co., Texas and burial was in the Masonic Cemetery. Mike's parents have only faded funeral home markers to mark their resting places at Settlers Field in McKinney, Collin Co., Texas Biography Index Tioga History Mexican American Roots Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson County TXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
