Mounger Baptist Church
Sandusky, Texas

The Mounger Baptist Church was organized in the 1880's, meeting in the Mounger School building.  It was located about 1.5 miles east of Sandusky.  The church met three Sundays a month with the Church of Christ holding services on one Sunday a month for a short while.

The land was donated by the Mark Mounger Family to be used for a church and a school building.  Some of the charter members were: Elias DeMoss,  W. J. Scarbrough, L. P. Freeman, Sam Smith and N. S. Henry.  The Mounger Baptist Church served the Sandusky community for about seventeen years.  Problems existed among the membership and the church was disbanded about 1904.

Three ministers of the church were: Rev. Martin Short, Rev. Autrey and Rev. H. M. Cagle.  Rev. Cagle was a Grayson County Baptist Missionary.
