Ancestry.com has Hospital Admission Card Files. This also covered the condition of the bodies brought in from the battlefield, ship or crashes. It states they died of multiple causes, bomb fragments and burns. So death was instant on impact.

All of the men were buried in a temporary cemetery and brought back
to the US on 10 Jun 1949, Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery in Kansas.
They had no way to sort them out and send each home. So they buried
crew members together in the center of the US.
