He was in Bancroft Hall 3rd Batt
Midshipman in the US Navy.
He had completed 1 yr of college.

At the time if his death his Father, Robert Lee Hamilton was living in
Denton, TX

Commissioned in the United States Naval Academy. He had graduated in 1943, Midshipman


The USS Savannah was Support to the Invasion
at Sicily at Salerno, and was protecting soldiers landing crafts on the beaches of Sicily. The ship was hit by a Fritz X radio guided bomb. Two hundred crew members were killed.  More were injured and many trapped in the wreckage for 60 hours.
The wreckage was repaired and the ship rejoined the war in 1945.

He is Memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing,
Sicily-Rome American Cemetery
Nettuno, Italy

And Memorialized at Arlington National Cemetery

And Memorialized at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.
His Parents are buried in West Hill Cemetery.

Lt JG H D Hamilton of Denton is Missing
Denton; Sep 24- Lt JG Hugh Dale Hamilton of Denton is missing in action, his parents MR and Mrs R L Hamilton, have been notified by the Navy Department.
Hamilton was graduated from Dorchester High School and moved to Denton with his parents, attending North Texas Teacher's College two years. In June, 1938 he entered the Navel Academy in Annapolis and was graduated in the first three-year class in Jun 1942. Since then he had been on sea duty.
