He was born in 1918, was
Technical Sergeant.
He was skilled in occupations in
manufacture of electrical
machinery and accessories.
He had enlisted at Randolph Field in San
Antonio in
the Air Corps. He had been in the National
Guard in
Federal Service within 3 months of
discharge.
Enlistment for Hawaiian Department.
So he had enlisted in 1939 and fought
through WWII,
at some point discharge and joined the
National Guard.
And went back in 1945.
(Randolph Field was a hot bed of
developing and
creating innovative air craft & parts
to improve them.)

Body of Local Man is Found in Bomber
Wreckage
The body of Sgt Leonard B Hughes, 31,
Sherman, who was one of the 11 airmen killed
in the crash of a B-50 bomber near Savanah,
Ga. December 21, has been found, according
to word received by his wife, Mrs Viola
Banks Hughes.
Graveside services are to be held at
Cedarlawn Cemetery, directed by Waldo
Funeral Home at a time to be announced.
Sgt Hughes was born at Sherman, March 22,
1918, son of Mrs and Mrs A B Hughes.
He was married to Viola Banks, Dec 31, 1939.
He served in England, Puerto Rico and on
Okinawa. He joined the Air Force, December
31,1939. He was a member of the Baptist
Church.
Survivors include; His wife, his father, one
daughter, Nancy Caroline Hughes of Sherman,
one brother, Glen Hughes of Sherman; three
sisters, Mrs Carl Vessels of Southmayd, Mrs
J P Wright and Miss Sue Sneed of Sherman.
Memorial services for Sgt Hughes were
conducted at Southmayd, January1.
