Lot's of young men and women moved to California

His Sherman High School Photo (He was 16)
I have looked everywhere for more articles, there are many Robert J Thompson' and Jack Thompson' in the state and service during that time and I found numerous ones who flew overseas in both theaters of war. None had any connection that I could prove. Unfortunately he didn't have an ordered military tombstone or it might have told of his unit.
He would not have been an instructor without having fought and flown for a while. He enlisted in 1941 and it was 1944 when his crash was. If you know where he served overseas please let me know.
