Flak hit 2 engines and a wing was blown off.

His Service No. 38436328 Fort Worth Star-Telegram 9 Oct 1944 The Denison Press 29 Sep 1944 When he died in the B-17G he was a ball turret gunner. He likely managed both positions.  They were specially picked and had to be small enough to fit in the confined spaces they worked in . The tail gunner had squeeze in tight spaces also. Ball Gunners usually could not wear their jackets because of the space problem.
