behalf of Richard
B. Graham
"That I am 70 years old. He claims his
Indian descent through his mother. His
father is a white man. I have known his
mother between 45 and 50 years. I got
acquainted with her at Hillsboro, Tenn.
She was born in Virginia - not far from
Rockbridge, Rock Bridge Co., I think.
She claimed her Indian descent through
her mother. Her name was Camblin Glass.
She came from Virginia, but I don't know
whether she was born there or not. His
mother was born in 1812 and died in
1902. She was a small girl when she went
to Tennessee. I have heard Mrs. Glass
say that her father was a full blood
Cherokee. Never heard her say whether
any of them were ever on any roll. They
were always connected with the white
people, but the old lady always told me
that she had Cherokee blood."
W.R. Graham in behalf
of Richard
B. Graham and also himself.
"I am a brother of Richard B. Graham. I
have filed application but don't know
the number. I claim my Indian descent
through my mother. My father is a white
man and my wife is a white woman. My
mother was born in Virginia in 1812. She
married about 1830 and she and my father
lived among the Indians at Lookout
Mountain, Tenn. Don't know whether she
took part in the Indian Councils or not.
Don't know whether my mother was ever on
any Indian roll.
My mother left Tenn. about 20 years when
I went after her and she died in Tex.
Never heard that she ever received
anything from the government. None of us
children were ever on any roll and never
received any money or land from the
government. My mother was more white
than Indian. She was something like 1/4
Cherokee. My mother had a brother named
Jack. He died in Ark. at the time of the
war.
We never applied to the
Dawes Commission for enrollment. In 1851
she lived near Hillsboro, Tenn. in
Coffey Co. - as well as I know."
Signed E.F. Douglas & W.R. Graham,
Sherman Texas, Aug. 25, 1908.
