Raymond Auto "Pete" King "He died before
I was even born, so I have never met him. My mom used to tell
me
about him, but only bits and pieces. His life was fairly
elusive!
I'm attaching the photo, which shows him in his Army uniform. He was in the Army in the 1930's and from what I'm told, he was stationed in the Philippines, and maybe a few places here in the states. He was a jack of all trades. He worked on ranches and helped the Taylors out at the garage there in Whitewright. Someone told me that the town asked him to run for Mayor once, but he refused and instead, took a job in Sherman. Pete was born on February 22, 1906 in Sevier County, Arkansas, and died July 22, 1962. He was the son of Harvey Armer and Mary Jane (Spicer) King. They lived in Fannin County. Around 1930, he married Naomi Ruth McCurdy, daughter of George Thomas and Maude Lou Taylor McCurdy. (Maude was the daughter of John Walter and Margaret Mysainah (Lyles) Taylor of Whitewright, who migrated from Kentucky around 1888, like everyone else did who lived in that part of Texas.) Pete had several brothers and sisters, both half and full. According to his half brother, Clyde (the only sibling still alive), Pete's favorite hobby was cars. He bought used cars, fixed them up and then drove them until they died." RAYMOND A.
